Narrative Report in Helping Struggling Readers

Helping Struggling Readers was the SLAC topic and was attended by all teachers of
Puting Lupa Elementary School and the reading coordinator Merle Nabiza as the facilitator.

The session started with a prayer, checking of attendance and the session proper. The
session started with the presentation of Mrs. Nabiza through the powerpoint presentation. She
tackled on how to help the struggling readers in which this is one of the major problems in Key
Stage 1.

The facilitator discussed the five (5 areas) of reading instruction on why pupils
experiencing struggle in reading. She also discussed the things that need to know to help
struggling readers.

She also emphasized that in dealing children we should be fair enough and have more
patience for the slow learners. We must develop interest, loyalty and perseverance to teach our
pupils to read to eradicate non-readers.

The SLAC session ended with one goal “Make every child a reader” and to promote love
for reading that anchored on the Deped Memorandum 285, s.2020.
