2. Context/Background of CEP

The clipper circuits are used for modifying or generating new waveforms from the applied input
voltage. The biased clipper comes in handy when a small portion of positive or negative half
cycles of the signal voltage is to be removed. It consists of a resistor, diode, and fixed DC
voltage source. The input AC voltage may be of square, sinusoidal, triangular waveform.
In this problem you are given output waveform of a clipper circuit. The constraint is that you are
living in an area where diodes of silicon material are not available, rather only the diodes of
germanium material are present in the market.

You are required to;

I. Identify the given diagram and mention the name of clipper.

II. Select the proper values of fixed dc voltage source and the input ac voltage so that the
value of Peak Voltage (as shown in above figure) should be equal to the value of last two
digits of your roll no. If value of the last two digits of roll no. is less than the value of dc
voltage, the value of Peak Voltage should be equal to sum of values of dc voltage and
last two digits of roll no.
III. Draw the final labelled circuit diagram to produce above mentioned output and illustrate
the equivalent circuit for analysis purpose.

3. CEP Targets/Objectives

I. To identify the given diagram and mention the name of clipper.

II. To select the value of proper value of the input AC voltage.
III. To draw the final circuit diagram to get desired output and illustrate equivalent circuit
for analysis purpose.

4. CEP Deliverables

I. CEP Report should contain the details description and estimation of the behaviors of the
clipper circuit.
II. Report should also contain the correct labelled diagram and equivalent circuit for
analysis purpose which must be capable of producing desired output waveform.
