Modified diet for a patient with carcinoma of the stomach

High protein, high calorie diet

This diet is tailored to provide higher amounts of calories and protein than usual.

Purpose

 To promote body tissue repair


 Prevent excessive muscle atrophy
 Repair worn out tissues

 Wounds
 After surgery
 Tissue trauma and injuries

Signs and symptoms

 Loss of appetite
 Weight loss
 Bloating after eating
 Feeling full after eating small amounts of food
 Weakness and fatigue
 Blood in stool
 Nausea and vomiting
 Ingestion

Characteristics of the diet

Composed mainly of grains, vegetables and fruits

40% carbohydrates, 30% proteins, 30% fats

Adequacy

It is possible to meet the entire nutrient requirement

A patient recovering from carcinoma of the stomach

Morning Breakfast

2 cup of boiled milk mixed with 1 scoop whey protein

1 teaspoon of sugar

1 teaspoon of peanut butter

2 slices of bread

1 medium size apple

Mid –day snack

1 cup of porridge mixed with 1 cup of milk

1 tablespoon of peanut butter

2 tablespoon of sugar
2 scoops of whey powder in porridge

1 small orange

Lunch

1 cup of cooked banana plus 1 tablespoon of olive oil

1 cup of cooked Irish potatoes

½ cup Salad dressing of cucumber and cabbage

1 cup of orange juice

1 cup of ice-cream

Evening snack

2 cup of milk mixed with multivitamin

2 cups of purple grapes

2 slices of whole wheat burn

1 tablespoon of cheese

Super

2 cups of boiled brown ice

A thigh of fried chicken

1 cup of lentils

1 medium avocado

1 cup of melon juice

1 teaspoon of olive oil

Note:

 Give multivitamin in between snacks


 Mineral supplement mixed in the milk
 Drink plenty of water in between meals
 All food to be served while hot
