BSN3-SET1 PARTICIPATION WEEK-8

1. Give 5 common stressors that causes stress among nursing students and why? (10 points)
Nowadays stress has become the most common thing among students. As a student nurse, I've
had a lot of stress in my life but the most common stressors that causes stress to me are problems at
home (family problem), deadlines, poor sleep habit, noisy environment, and academic pressure.
When I experienced family problem it caused negative emotions to me such as sadness and anger.
You know the feeling that you are having too much difficulty in your studies and then here are your
parents always fighting! During that time, I couldn't really concentrate to my academic and I was
almost evicted in nursing. The next one is to meet deadlines, to be honest, at this time of pandemic,
where the primary way of learning is via the internet. I'm more anxious since there are more activities
offered now by our clinical instructors, compared to face-to-face sessions, where all I do is do tasks
before the deadline, and I feel like I'm having a hard time learning. And because I want to complete
my task, I stay up late at night which results in having a poor sleep habit which also caused stress to
me. Next is Noisy environment, I can't totally avoid the noisy environment that comes from our
neighbor, vehicles, and animals like chicken because I'm at home during online class. As a result, I
can't always focus, especially when the google meet is going on. Lastly academic pressure, my
parents did not put any pressure on me regarding my academics, but our relatives did, because I was
the only one in my family who was pursuing a medical degree, and they put pressure on me.

2. What is stress? (5 points)

For me, stress is a physiological reaction that affects the cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and social
aspects of a person's life. It also includes the organism's adaptation, coping resources, and the
environment. It is also a feeling that people can have due to overload of work and somehow they struggle
to cope up with demands. These demands can be related to their finances, work, relationship or many
other reasons but anything that brings a challenge or threat to the person’s well-being is known as stress.
It is about psychological factor which has an impact on the academic performance and welfare of the
nursing students.

3. Who are the people you can talk about your stress? (10 points)
Stress is a part of life. What matters most is how you handle it. The best thing you can do to
prevent stress overload and the health consequences that come with it is to know your stress symptoms.
Allowing yourself to talk about and work through situations helps release stress and anxiety. It might be
more beneficial to do this with a person who isn’t intimately connected to you, such as a spouse or best
friend. This is especially true if they are part of the stress. They may ask questions that encourage you to
think deeply about the root cause of a stressor. If you are unable to reduce your stress or prevent future
stressful episodes despite your best efforts, ask your doctor for a referral to a mental health specialist who
treats anxiety and stress. It’s important to recognize the role a professional’s help can play in conquering
stress and anxiety. They can help you find ways to reduce the impact stress has on you. They might
suggest meditation, visualization, or talk therapy. These techniques allow you to reduce your stress load
while counteracting any negative physical impacts. They can also teach you how to face stressful
situations without buckling under pressure.
