DEDICATION

This project work is dedicated to God almighty who has given us the grace to be able to

see the completion of this course. Also, we dedicate this project work to our lovely

parents for their financial, spiritual and moral support caring for the course of study.

iii
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

It is well known facts that not every attempts lead to success. This is the reason

we are grateful to God first and then to every other person involved in making our dream

a reality. we appreciate the effort of our project supervisor, ENGR.BAMIKEFA for his

maturity and high sense of understanding that really made us sail through with little or no

fear of the unforeseen circumstances.

Our unreserved appreciation goes also to the members of staff of the Electrical

Electronics Department, Federal Polytechnic, Ede. Also, our parent deserved not only

recognition but best commendation and gratitude, if only for their sacred parental

blessings not to talk of their moral and financial support. In fact, they are to us all that is

meant by parents.

This piece will never be completed without putting it into record the best of all

companionship we enjoy from the pioneering student of the School of Engineering

Technology, Department of Electric.al Electronics, Federal Polytechnic, Ede.

We doff our caps for you all, thanking God for the good and sweet memories of

our togetherness. We feel high indebted to all these people. In return we pray that as the

effect of their deeds linger or in our hearts, so shall their rewards be, till memory shall be

no more.

ABSTRACT

The simple 1kVA inverter was designed and built in order to reduce the problem
of unreliable power supply in our country today. This project is aimed at providing
electrical power to consumers in order to energize essential household or office
appliances when it is required. The 1kVA inverter uses electrical component to achieve
the desired voltage, these components are Integrated circuit (IC), MOSFETS, transistor,
lighting emitting diode[L.E.D], switch and relay which when combined together gives an
output voltage that can be used in houses and offices. This project does a long way to
give evidence and show that it can be used in the economy in favor of electronics and its
usefulness in our present life days. We suggest that this project should be looked into by
the school administration to see the possibilities of providing modification to better its
operation to encourage our future generation to indulge in technological advancement.
This project works based on the design and construction of a 1kVA inverter which is a
two mode operational device (i.e. charging mode and discharging mode).diodes are used
to prevent reverse current flow when the battery is fully charged it was constructed using
a top down methodology with active and passive component available in local market. It
is realized in different modules, all combine to form one functional unit. The inputs are
configured IC and relay which acts as a sensor that detects power supply from the
authority hence, switching between supply from mains and inverter supply that is
battery. The result being a system which can power appliances such as lighting points
and socket outlets (13A specifically). It is not suitable for industrial use.
