Teacher Tips
Organize small group discussions for your students through video and
instant messaging apps (McClelland, 2020).
Utilize online tools to offer your students multiple assessment options.
This allows for multiple means of action and expression.
Create a Q & A feed through a social media tool to allow students to
continuously ask questions while giving yourself time to filter through
them. This allows students to anonymously ask questions.

Student Tips
Set up your workspace by creating a quiet and comfortable place where
distractions will be limited. Ensure that all your materials are nearby and
accessible (Imagine Learning, 2021).
Don't forget to log off and take breaks. When your synchronous learning
session is over, take time to unplug and step away from your device.
Don't be afraid to ask questions. If you do not understand something or
your technology is not working, speak up. Synchronous learning provides
the opportunity to ask questions verbally or through the chat box.

Parent Tips
Ensure that your child has all the needed materials. Test your child's
camera and microphone ahead of time to make sure they are working. If
things aren't working, contact your child's school (AVEA, 2021).
Limit distractions by placing their other devices in a different space and
turning off any TVs or radios in their workplace.
Monitor your child's online learning. When you have extra time, observe
your child. Take notice of their focus, participation, and confidence
level. If they seem to be unengaged or frustrated, reach out to their
teacher.

Students have more time Students must be self-

with the material and can motivated to learn and

Teacher Tips
Make the module interactive! Providing "Do Nows" throughout the
lesson will help to scaffold student learning into layers that can build
upon one another (Pieratt, 2020). Having them complete tasks
throughout the lesson will keep them engaged. Do Now activities can
reflect learner abilities.
Build in check-points to see how your students are progressing.
Suggest pacing for the completion of the modules to improve time
management. Pacing can differ between learners.

Student Tips
Stay focused on your learning. You can help do this by keeping only a
few tabs open at a time and only opening ones related to your learning
(Oakland University, 2020).
Practice using the tools that your teacher provides you with during
asynchronous instruction. The better you become at using the tools the
easier it will be to follow along with your lessons.
Schedule brain breaks for yourself. Set a timer to ensure that you are
not on your device for too long. Every 15 minutes take a 5 minute break
to unplug.

Parent Tips
Set up a good routine. Children thrive on structure and routine. If the
students are following a schedule similar to what they would at school,
it will help to keep them on track with their learning (AVEA, 2021).
Actively monitor what sites your child is on and talk to them about
internet safety. Tell them to inform you if they see something sketchy
online.
Schedule breaks for your kids. Allow them a "recess" from online
learning where they can step away from their device.
