HISTORY OF VINGROUP

In December 2003, after exactly 18 months under construction, 5-starred Vinpearl Resort and Spa
Nha Trang was inaugurated, this was the very first shot that led its way to a chain of success of
Vingroup in Vietnam. Soon after that, Vinpearl cross-sea slings, Vinpearl Golf and Vinpearl Luxury
Da Nang were correspondingly in use over a couple of years.

Contemporarily, in 2004, Vincom confirmed its first-place in Royal Real Estate with the opening of
Vincom Center Ba Trieu.

Since 2007, Vingroup is listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange.

In 2010, Vingroup sold its Ukraine operation to Nestlé for 150 million USD.
The year 2013 witnessed the opening ceremony of Vincom Royal City, which is one of the most
prominent residence project in Hanoi, famous for its exclusive facilities from the largest underground
shopping mall in Asia.

In October 2014, Vingroup bought the supermarket chain OceanMart in a move to gain market
shares in the retail industry, and renamed it VinMart.

In October 2015, Vingroup bought the Vietnamese supermarket chain Maximark (9 outlets). In
September 2015, Vingroup launched a major animal conservation program on Phú Quốc, Vietnam's
largest island. Vingroup also launched the ecommerce website Adayroi.com.

In 2016, Vingroup started operating their Vinmec healthcare and Vinschool education subsidiaries as
non-profits to improve Vietnamese society. The group invested 22.5 million USD in Australian real
estate.

In September 2017, Vingroup started the construction of its own car factory.
Then just 13 months later, in October 2018, Vingroup announced that its car division VinFast would
become the first domestic car manufacturer, with an annual production capacity of 250,000 cars.
$3.5 billion were invested in the development of this project.
In May 2018, 10% of Vinhomes was made public and Vinhomes started trading on the Ho Chi Minh
City Stock Exchange. The 25 year anniversary of Vingroup was celebrated by the opening of the
Vingroup owned Landmark 81 tower in Ho Chi Minh City, the tallest completed building in Southeast
Asia at the time. In October 2018, Vingroup announced that its car division VinFast would become
the first domestic car manufacturer, with an annual production capacity of 250,000 cars. $3.5 billion
were invested in the development of this project. In December 2018, the group got into the
smartphone market with the launch of Vsmart-branded phones running on Android. The
smartphones are produced by the group' s VinFast unit. The smartphones are part of an ecosystem
of smart AI devices the group plans to launch to market.

On 6/9/2018, Vingroup Group was voted by Forbes Magazine as one of the top 50 Asian
businesses.
In November 2018, the city of Hanoi announced that the city will be hosting a Formula 1 Grand
Prix starting in April 2020, with Vingroup as the promoter of the project.

In March 2019, Vingroup acquired the e-wallet platform MonPay. In May 2019, the South Korean
conglomerate SK Group bought a 6.1% stake in Vingroup for $1 billion.

Personal life

Vượng was born on 5 August 1968 in Hanoi; his paternal family has origins in Hà Tĩnh Province in
central Vietnam. His father served in the Vietnamese Army's air defence division, and his mother
sold tea out on the streets, which left the family with a very meager income. He grew up in Hanoi
and graduated from Kim Lien High School in 1985. In 1987, he entered Hanoi University of Mining
and Geology and was sent to Russia to study in the Moscow Geological Prospecting Institute, for
which he was able to obtain a scholarship because of his strong maths abilities. He graduated from
this university in 1992. After graduating, he married Phạm Thu Hương, whom he had known since
high school, and moved to Kharkiv, Ukraine.

Career as an entrepreneur
Using money borrowed from friends and family, he opened a Vietnamese restaurant in Ukraine, but
soon he also started producing and selling instant noodles. In 1993, he founded Technocom, which
would become a market leader in dehydrated culinary products in Ukraine, which he sold
to Nestlé for $150 million in 2009, before returning to Vietnam. Vượng's first projects in Vietnam
were Vinpearl Resort Nha Trang (opened in 2003) and Vincom City Towers (later renamed Vincom
Ba Trieu) in central Hanoi (opened in 2004). Vincom went public in 2007. It merged with Vinpearl,
Vượng's luxury resort business, to form VinGroup in 2007. VinGroup is headquartered in its
Riverside township in Long Biên District in Eastern Hanoi.
In 2015, Vượng was listed as the richest person in the Vietnam with assets totalling VNĐ24.3 trillion
(approximately US$1.1 billion), which more than quadrupled those of the second richest person,
Trần Đình Long of Hanoi Hoa Phat Corporation. His wife, Phạm Thu Hương and sister-in-law Phạm
Thúy Hằng ranked third and fifth respectively. As of 9 June 2019, Forbes estimated his net worth to
be US$7.7 billion.
