DEFINITION OF TERMS
• Electrical Wiring Plan is a
technical representation
of electrical system
proposed to be installed
in building or house. It
includes materials,
devices and equipment.
• Floor Plan is a plan of
room or floor of a building
drawn to scale as if
viewed from above.
• Legend shows the
meaning of each symbol
used in the electrical plan.
• Electrical symbols are
pictogram used to
represent various
electrical and electronic
devices or functions, such
as wires, batteries,
resistors, and transistors,
in a schematic diagram of
an electrical or electronic
circuit.

Before sketching an electrical
wiring plan, the minimum requirements for
each area or room in the building should be
considered.
The final design of the typical
bungalow residential wiring plan is shown,
indicating service entrance, electric meter,
and position of the switches, convenience
outlets, lighting outlets and panel board.
Electrical symbols are used in home
electrical wiring plans in order to show the
location, control point(s), and type of
electrical devices required at those
locations. These symbols, which are drawn
on top of the floor plan, show lighting
outlets, receptacle outlets, special purpose
outlets, fan outlets and switches. Dashed lines are drawn between the
symbols to denote which switches control
specific lights or receptacles
(lighting fixture) or ceiling fan.
What is the importance of electrical symbols and why circuit symbols

industry. Electrical symbols are required to do the electrical drawing and

without the help of electrical symbols, we won’t be able to do the electrical
drawing.
Electrical circuits are represented by electrical drawings. Symbols
and number combinations are used to represent electrical circuits.

SWITCH Electrical drawings can be used to convey information about a wide
range of details such as electrical wiring, pneumatic or hydraulic layouts,
location of the equipment, and details of the equipment. By using electrical
3-WAY SWITCH drawings we would be able to locate the equipment.
