CONTEXT & RATIONALE

Physical Education is a very important component in child development. (Maher, 2016; Darst, 2014;

Balsevich, 2006). Physical activity directly affects the cognitive processes- excitation and increased secretion of

neuropilins increase the child self-esteem and affects his/her mental activity at school. Adoptation and application

of mobile devices and social media can provide ample futuristic learning opportunities to the students in

accessing course contents as well as interaction with peers and experts (Cavus & Ibrahim, 2008, 2009; Nihalina

& Mayarth, 2010).

Furthermore, mobile devices and social media provide excellent educational e-learning opportunities to

the students for academic collaboration. (Gikas & Grant, 2013). Under the DepEd Memorandum 2020- 00162

states that kindergarten pupils are advised to have only one hour of screen time. Grade 1 to 5 students are

recommended to use their gadgets for an hour and a half each day for their online learning.

In the past two years since the pandemic started, Hinigaran Elementary School-A performance in

Physical Education has been a problem since the students cannot perform well due to lack of interest in learning

because of the modular based instruction. The pupils’ low fitness level and attitudes about physical education

was determined by the increase in the inactive lifestyle of grade four pupils, disinterest in physical education

fitness activities, lack of pupil input and the physical fitness test tool result shows pupils’ attitude and interest in

physical fitness activities. The researchers aim to develop intensive learning activity through social media like

tiktok in improving pupils’ proficiency in physical education.

ACTION RESEARCH QUESTIONS

The purpose of this study is to improve the level of proficiency of pupils in Physical Education.

1. What is the proficiency of pupils in Physical Education before the intervention?

2. What is the proficiency of pupils in Physical Education after the intervention?

3. Is there a significant difference in the proficiency of pupils in Physical Education before and after the

intervention?
PROPOSED INNOVATION, INTERVENTION OR STRATEGY

This study aims to focus on the low-level performance in Physical Education (P.E) of the learners using

mobile application specifically Tiktok to develop intensive learning activities. The researchers came up with the

Project DILAT to enhance the level of proficiency in Physical Education of pupils in grade four.

It will be conducted in Hinigaran Elementary School-A, District of Hinigaran-I, Division of Negros

Occidental, School Year 2022-2023. Hinigaran Elementary School-A is the participating school, since it is the

facility of the researchers, and they have an easy access on the participants and it is convenient for them in the

midst of the pandemic.

Topics and activities will be based from the third quarter curriculum of Elementary School that coincides

with the Most Essential Learning Competencies in MAPEH subject for the school year 2022-2023. The MELCS

that will be used; execute the different skills involved in the dance, PE4GS-IIIc-h-4, Week 4 and 5. The

implementation period will be the whole month of March.

At the scheduled time for asking consent from parents, the researchers will also conduct home visitation

to the participants and parents before the implementation of the intervention to ensure that they will sign the

consent.

Proponent 1 will make the consent form for parents and the rubrics to be use during the implantation of

the intervention.

Proponent 2 will monitor if the participants have the availability of the gadgets and the tiktok application

to be used in the said performance task. Proponent 2 will use the Leaners’ Enrollment Survey Form to determine

the number of pupils who have gadgets.

Proponent 3 will make sample tiktok video about the specific topic. Proponent 3 will record of herself a

video about the topic.

Tiktok application will be used as an access in performing the specific skills in Week 4 and 5

competencies, since the intervention will be performed at home, participants of the study will work individually

with the guidance of their parents/guardians.

Pre-Implementation. In this stage, pupils will be tasked to read and internalized the given instructions

and rubrics.

Implementation. In this stage the pupils will perform the given task based on the given instruction and

rubrics. They will perform and make video of themselves and upload it in Tiktok.

Post-Implementation. In this stage, the pupils will upload their output in Tiktok and the teacher will

evaluate it using a rubric. The rubrics to be used in scoring the performance will be based from the Deped

Learning Module and Physical Fitness Test Scale.

ACTION RESEARCH METHODS

1. Research Design

This study will employ collaborative research action design employing the proficiency level of Grade

four pupils of Hinigaran Elementary School-A. It involves the description, recording, analysis, and interpretation

of the data based on the physical fitness test result.

2. Sample/ Participants and/or other sources of data and information

The participants of this study where the grade four pupils of Hinigaran Elementary School-A school year

2022-2023. The participants where randomly selected since they have the most numbered learners with low

performance task result. In Grade four level the total number of enrollments is 220, 25 of them will be selected to

be the participant of the study.

3. Ethical Considerations

The researchers address the protection of the participants through the application of appropriate ethical

principles. The ethical areas that need to be consider in research are voluntary-participation pupils and parents

should both agree to participate in the study. Informed consent will be used to get parents approval.

Confidentiality, all the data that will be collected in this study will be kept private and purely be used in for study

only and anonymity will keep for the safety of the participants in this study. It promotes moral and social values

along with the aims and results of our research.

4. Data gathering methods

To answer the aims of the study, pretest and post-test will be administered to the pupils to determine

their proficiency level in Physical Education. Learners Enrollment Form will be use to collect data on the number

of pupils who have gadgets in their home. A parent consent will assure that they are willing to participate in the

said study.

5. Data Analysis Plan

Data gathered from the study will be analyzed and enhanced using descriptive and inferential statistics.

For questions 1 and 2 which aims to determine the proficiency level of grade four pupils during pre-test

and post-test, Percentage and Mean, Frequency and Percentage Distribution will be used.

For question number 3 which aims to determine if there is a significant difference in the proficiency level

of pupils before and after the intervention.
