1) Locomotor skills such as running and walking would be utilised in this
learning experience. Children would be able to run within their given
space, thus gaining greater understanding of their personal and general
space.

2) Locomotor skills such as running would be utilised, and children would also
gain a greater understanding on relationship awareness through being able to
identify how their leg movements would affect their balance. Through this,
children would also learn about non-locomotor skills such as balancing.

Objectives (Integration with one other Learning Area): Children will be able to …
(Maximum 4 objectives)
1) Children will be able to balance their body weight while running.
2) Children will be able to stop running without falling.
3) Children would be able to sort 3 strings of different lengths in ascending order.
4) Children would be able to brisk walk and stop at the designated marker with
ease.

2 x 20cm length of yarn string
1 x 25cm length of yarn string
6 pieces of black tape
First station: Black tape marking each row of the station. 3 yarn strings of
different lengths will be shuffled.
Second station: Black tape marking the start and end of the running section.
Safety Consideration: <list>
Ensure there are no safety hazards lying around on the floor or within children’s
reach.
Ensure floor is dry so that children would not slip and fall.

Details of Learning Experience: (include transitions and suggested questions in

each section below)

Warm up activity (duration): 10 minutes

1) Children would greet the teachers, stand up and get into three rows. They will
then put their arms out to their sides, front and back to ensure that they have
ample space to conduct the warm up exercise. This is to ensure they do not
knock into each other.
2) Teacher would stand in front of the class and conduct stretching exercises.
This would start with upper body stretches such as the neck stretch and sideway
bend. Each exercise would be done once on each side of the body for 3 seconds
each. The teacher would then proceed to lower body stretches such as the upper
thigh stretch and seated-L stretch. Each exercise would also be done for 3
seconds each on both sides of the body.
3) Exercises such as arm circles, and standing to reach up would also be done to
ensure ample stretching of the children’s bodies. There would be a break of five
seconds between each stretching exercise.
4) Teacher will then clap four times and instruct children to transition into two
rows to prepare for the main activity. Teacher would explain that they would be
putting the strings in ascending order from shortest to tallest to proceed to the
next station where they would learn how to brisk walk/run and stop at the next
black tape.
Suggested questions: “Can you raise your hands and tell me what are some
differences there are in sizes?” (e.g. smallest to biggest, shorter to taller, earlier
to later)
Main activity (duration): 20 minutes
1) Children will then proceed to the first station in their two rows. Each pair will
stand at their respective black tapes. The teacher will then signal start and
children would be given time to arrange the strings in the correct order. If one
party finishes before the other, they would have to wait for their partner to
proceed.
2) The pair would then proceed to the next station that is a few steps away, and
prepare to run to the other end of the room. The teacher would then signal for the
pair to start brisk walking towards the next black marker.
Differentiation:
Variation 1 for children with lower level of skill:
Teacher would have to look out for whether the children are able to balance and
ensure their stability when they stop brisk walking. This process would continue
until all pairs in the class are done with both stations.

Variation 2 for children with higher level of skill:

Children with high level of skill would then proceed to attempt the activity while
running instead of brisk walking. Teacher would have to look out for whether the
children are able to balance and ensure their stability as they run to the next
black marker. This process would continue until all pairs in the class are done
with both stations.
Suggested questions: “ Who here knows how to run from one marker to the
other?”
“Does anyone want to demonstrate for me?”

Cool down activity and closure (duration): 10 minutes

1) Once all students are done with the main activity, the teacher will send the
children for a water break.
2) After the water break, children will then be asked to go back into their three
rows, and space out to prepare for cooling down.
3) Children will then do stretches such as the upper thigh stretch, overhead arm,
knee lunge and arms circle. Each exercise would be done on both sides of the
body for four seconds each.
4) Once children are done stretching, they would proceed to do a two minute
deep breathing exercise to calm themselves down and get ready for the next
segment of the day.
