CAREER LIFE CONNECTIONS 12

CAPSTONE PLAN
The Capstone Plan is your script for your Capstone Presentation. It will help you prepare for your presentation,
so you know what you need to include.
PART A: INTRODUCTION
Introduce yourself. Who are you? Tell us a little about yourself. E.g., Hi! My name is Patricia Morabito and I
am excited to be going to UBC to study languages next year. I was inspired to study languages by my high
school language teachers. I plan to pursue a career as a European tour guide so I can combine my love of
languages with my love of travel and history.
Hi, my name is Brian. I came from the first decorated country in Asia, Taiwan.
In August 2019, I arrived in Canada. In grade 10 and grade 11, I study at Port Moody Secondary School. Until
grade 12, I transfer to Burnaby Central Secondary School. Within one year, I fit in well here.
In the future, I’m planning to go to Stony Brook University, which is located in Long Island, New York. I am
applying to College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. My major is Biomedical Engineering. In the future, I
want to apply school of nursing because I want to be emergency personnel. This is a new challenge for me.

PART B: PRE- & POST-GRADUATION PLANS

Reflect on the Post-Graduation plan that you submitted to help you with your answers.
a) Reflect upon the career and self-exploration completed in CLE 10 and CLC 11. How have things changed in
grade 12? E.g., I always wanted a career in science but after completing the surveys in CLE 10 I realized that I
was more suited for a career in business. The more I researched about business careers the more I was
interested in it and that is why I am planning to apply to the Beedie School of Business at SFU...

In the past, I always wanted to be an airplane pilot because there was one of the projects that our CLE 10
teacher told us to do. I just looked up the website and found the salary for this job was high and I'm very
interested in it. But found out that if you wanted to be a pilot, it requires a lot of dedication, commitment and
hardworking, etc. I think it might not be the career for me.

In grade 11 and grade 12, I'm interested in medical education. I found that helping people was such a joy for
me. Helping others feels good. So, I'm applying to nursing school for a second degree at sophomore. I'm
planning to go toward this career.

b) What are you planning to do in September 2022? What led you to this decision? E.g., I am planning to take
a semester off so I can find a full-time job to pay for school. After doing research, I realized that I could not
afford to go to school in September. I will be applying for a student loan as well...

In September 2022, I'm planning to go to university. In freshman year, I'm taking College of Engineering and
Applied Science's common subjects. At the same time, I will also take the interprofessional curriculum. This
year, I will change the direction of my life. In general, I will get in the direction of medical care.
c) Did you have a significant mentor who has guided you on this journey? If so, how did that person guide
you? E.g., My uncle, who is a structural engineer, has mentored me as I am interested in this line of work. He
helped with my Capstone project by guiding me in building a folding computer table...

In 2017, I watched a TV show called “The Good Doctor”. I got inspired by this TV show. I don't have to be a
doctor, but I want to be medical personnel or a first emergence, even if it's just an ambulance driver, if I help
people, I'm happy.
When my parent knew that I wanted to be medical personnel, they 100% supported whatever I'm happy to
do. With all my dreams, I shall practice all the knowledge. With my parent's permission, they all agree with my
plan. “Taken from society, giving back to society.”
d) What are the challenges (living arrangements, tuition costs, part time job) you may encounter next year?
E.g., I will be going to McGill in September and will be living in residence. My parents will be covering the cost
for both tuition and housing but I am anxious about being on my own...

I will be going to New York for university. It will be a new environment for me. There will be a barrier to the
new study system.

The price to live there is high. Although my parents are going with me, but I will also get a part-time job to
lower the living budget.

On the other way, all my friends in Canada will not be around me. It will be a big challenge for me to get into a
new environment without friends. I will start to find some new friend zone and join some clubs to meet new
friends

e) How will you maintain school and life balance (healthy nutrition, lifestyle habits, exercise, stress and sleep
management plans)? E.g., I will start playing tennis again to relieve any stress and to help with my mental
health...
Every day’s study is important. Daily reading to maintain healthy energy.

My daily plan will be finishing homework or books as soon as possible, step by step. That will make my study
keep on.

For now, I like to exercise every day to maintain body shape and energy. In the future, I will still be keeping
track of these habituation.

I used to go to bed at 10 pm every night. But in the future, I will have some roommates. That will be one thing
I need to overcome.

PART C: WORK EXPERIENCE - Due by June 3, 2022

Reflect on your 30 hours of Work Experience.

a) A description of your WORK EXPERIENCE placement and what you learned about yourself in this line of
work. E.g., I did my work experience at 4Cats Arts Studio and I learned that a lot of patience and responsibility
is required when working with young children. This opportunity affirmed my love for teaching art but maybe
with an older age group…

I did my work experience at TD construction. There are two construction sites close to downtown Vancouver.
Because of distance and the work time, I have to wake up at 5 am and get on the bus at 5:30. This work
experience let me learn to be on time, step by step and be careful. The job starts at 7:30, and I don't want to
be late. So, being on time and never being late is important. On a construction site, step by step is important.
If you don't follow the steps, you might injure yourself and affect the building process. In construction, make
sure to wear safety equipment, such as a helmet, safety goggles, and gloves. So, to maintain safety awareness.
During these time, I very much enjoy and have lots of fun with other employees. I successfully finish 80 hours
of work experience.

PART D: EVIDENCE AND CORE COMPETENCIES

Choose at least 2 pieces of evidence about yourself that you are proud of. E.g., work experience evaluations,
travel photos, a journal, certificate, medals/awards, letter of reference etc.
a) Connect each piece of evidence to a core competency and explain how it represents your personal growth
or accomplishment. Ensure you discuss the evidence that showcases these competencies. Please see CORE
COMPETENCY Resource attached to this assignment in Teams to choose your core competencies.
Example:

EVIDENCE CONNECT TO THE CORE COMPETENCIES

1. Hockey Competency: PERSONAL STRENGTHS AND ABILITIES (under Positive Personal &
Trophy Culture Identity)
My hockey team won the Provincial Championship trophy last year. I am proud of this
piece of evidence because it demonstrates how I contributed by bringing my
teamwork skills, speed, and strong work ethic to the ice. I was named MVP of that
game...

EVIDENCE CONNECT TO THE CORE COMPETENCIES

1. Competency:
COLLABORATING During my work experience, I learned that collaboration is very important. Collaborating
can improve the way my team or teammates works together and problem solve.

This leads to more innovation, efficient processes, increased success, and improved
communication.

Working collaboratively, instead of individually, helps improve productivity and gives

teammates a sense of purpose in the organization.
2. PERSONAL Competency:
AWARENESS &
RESPONSIBILITY During my work experience, I learned that personal awareness & responsibility is very
important (like being on time).

Self-awareness is about learning to better understand of what you feel and why you behave
in a particular way.

Having an accurate sense of who help you to decide what you should do to improve. Self-
awareness will reveal a skills gap that you wanted to work on.

PART E: SMART GOAL

JUST A REMINDER THAT YOUR SMART GOAL MUST HAVE BEEN APPROVED BY YOUR CLC ADVISOR.

a) Explain your SMART goal and the steps you took to accomplish it. What did you learn?

My smart goal is to get the certification card of Adult-Child-Infant CPR, AED, Standard AID. I finished my lesson
on April 25th and get the certification card on May 3rd. I did the lesson during the weekend for straight 7
weeks. It was a very interesting lesson and learned some valuable knowledge.

b) What evidence do you have to show completion of your SMART goal? (E.g., photos, video, documents,
finished product, etc.)

Certification merit and certification card.

c) What challenges did you encounter when completing your SMART goal?

The challenge I encountered during my smart goal was all the professional jargon lessons. Profession jargons
are like, brachial, abdominal thrusts, etc. Using professional jargons are difficult to understand. I forced myself
to understand and memorize them. If people need them in the future, I’m willing to help them immediately.

PART F: CONCLUSION

Reflect on your experiences and growth as a learner.

Think about what reflecting on your experiences and growth as a learner revealed about who and how you
want to be as a young adult? E.g., Throughout my high school years I left everything to the last minute. My
procrastination led to unnecessary stress. As an adult I would like to learn to manage my time more effectively
since I will be juggling school, work, and my personal life…
Before high school, I lacked this concept. I need my parent to help me label everything I need to finish. But
after being in high school for four years, I found out you have to do everything by yourself.

Subconsciously, I will set some goals for myself. For example, I will set some progress for my homework and
some plans for reviewing. Let everything be sorted as much as possible.
Won't let my emotional and physical have too much pressure. Be responsible for my family and me. In the

CLC 12 CAPSTONE
future, I will keep growing and be a responsible man.
