CAREER LIFE CONNECTIONS 12

MY CAPSTONE PROJECT SMART GOAL

Your SMART goal MUST relate to post-graduation/career plans or a passion or interest. You must choose
something that you can accomplish by the end of the semester to showcase in your Capstone presentation.
Your smart goal CANNOT be a given (e.g. get good grades, apply to post-secondary). It must be something
you have never done, and you are NOT doing for credit in a class.
Remember that your goal must be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and  Timely. You also need to be
able to provide evidence of all steps you took to accomplish the goal and present it at the Capstone
Presentation. Refer to the “Intro to Capstone and SMART goal” video for examples and ideas. Submit this
digitally on Teams and on paper to the Career Education area in Student Services (A233).

1. VERIFY THAT YOUR GOAL IS A SMART GOAL
Specific: What exactly will you accomplish? E.g. I would like to learn basic Japanese.
When I was still a kid, I loved to help people that were in trouble. It was a dream for me to learn Adult – Child
Infront CPR, AED and First Aid. So, my goal is to learn Adult – Child Infront CPR, AED, and First Aid. I wish I can
help more people with this skill and contribute to society.
Measurable: How will you know when you have reached this goal? E.g I will track my progress by using the
Duolingo app and feel confident having basic conversations in Japanese.
I have ordered an online class to learn all the emergency knowledge that I might use in the future, and I will do
all the exams and courses on the website. I’ll make sure that I will pass all the courses, exams and get the
certification card.
Achievable: Is achieving this goal realistic with effort and commitment? Do you have the resources to achieve
this goal? If not, how will you get them? Write down all steps below that you will need to achieve this goal
under the Action Plan heading. E.g. 1. I will download the free app Duolingo on to my phone. 2. I will make a
schedule to remind me to practice etc.
1. I will be using the website “simplecpr.com” on my laptop.
2. I will be using five weeks to finish all the lessons and exams.
3. In all progress, I will keep practicing all the knowledge.
4. I will encourage and push myself to get the certification card for this emergency lesson.
ACTION PLAN. HERE ARE THE STEPS I WILL NEED TO TAKE TO ACCOMPLISH THIS GOAL BY JUNE 3:
FIRST NAME: BRIAN LAST NAME: CHIANG

1. Start doing all the lessons and take some notes.

2. Keep tracking with the course and practice with other extra information.
3. Take some videos and some screenshots of me doing the lesson.
4. Edit the video of my progress during these five weeks.
5. Show a picture of the certification card.
Relevant: Why is this goal significant to your life? How does it connect to your post-graduation/career plans or
passion/interest? E.g. I want to learn Japanese so I can travel to Japan to teach English.
I want to be medical personnel in the future to help some people with this skill. It might be used in society,
hospitals or in school. This skill will be with me my whole life.
Timely: When will you achieve this goal? E.g. I will achieve my goal by June 3, 2022.
I will say, it will achieve by May 5, 2022.
Now combine your answers from above to make a SMART goal! E.g. Since I want to teach English in Japan in
the future, I will learn basic Japanese and feel confident having simple conversations from now until January 1,
2022, by following a schedule to practice the language using the Duolingo App.
SMART GOAL:
Since I want to be medical personnel, this skill will be useful in the future. I will be using the website called
“simplecpr.com” to complete the lesson that I purchased. I will be confident using the skill in the future or
in medical school. I will start from February 26, 2022, until May 5, 2022. With all the pressure, I shall
practice all the knowledge and make some notes that I will understand more. With my parent’s permission,
they all agree with my plan. “Taken from society, giving back to society.”
2. WHAT EVIDENCE WILL YOU USE TO PROVE YOU HAVE COMPLETED YOUR GOAL? E.g. I will take
screenshots of my progress throughout Duolingo and submit my practice schedule. I will also make a time-
lapse video of my time on Duolingo and speak some Japanese during my Capstone Presentation.
During the study, I will take make a schedule of my studying time and what I have done during the day. I will
take lots of time-lapse and screenshots of the website, combined to a video to show my progress and my
goal. On the last, I’ll provide a picture of my certification card after the lesson.
MAKE SURE TO UPLOAD THE ASSIGNMENT AND ALSO DROP OFF A PRINT COPY TO A233. THIS IS THE ONLY
TIME WE REQUIRE A PRINT COPY OF AN ASSIGNMENT. THANKS!
