REFLECTION PAPER ABOUT TEDDY STODDARD AND MRS.

THOMPSON

“In a matter of time, all of us would become a teacher. Not now but soon after we graduate and practice
our profession. A teacher doesn’t always symbolize schools but it tackles many

profound meanings in one’s life. If we pursue it we will all be in schools teaching the subjects

we once hated, giving assignments to our students and putting a red mark on their outputs or

quizzes. After that we will learn how to love and hate our students in every aspect of them “.

The true to life story of Teddy Stoddard and Mrs. Thompson simply tells how beautiful is the

journey of life is. It’s about living and loving your own life no matter you face consecutive

obstacles and through ups and down. Literally we can’t control situations and dictate to stop it

because in every situations that will happen to us there are negative and positive effect on us but

come to think, these situations will give us lesson to look forward and deal with it.

Three letters from Teddy Stoddard was a story all about a student, keeping in touch with his

grade 5 teacher. On the other hand, Mrs. Thompson description in the story was an insensitive

educator until she found out that one of her student needs attention. She focused on teddy’s issue

and deficits until Teddy learn how to cope stress because of the patience, persuasion and

encouragement given by Mrs. Thompson to him.

Talking about the part of the story where I am most touched is when Teddy gave his gifts to Mrs.

Thompson. The bracelet with incomplete rhinestones and a half full bottle of perfume was the

turning point of the story. It was the part where Mrs. Thompson realized that she was being

insensitive to what Teddy really needs. I believe that it is in our system to like intelligent and

witty kids in classroom and to dislike those who are out casted. But putting ourselves as

educators in future, we should not be entitled to dislike the outcasts and the black sheep inside

the classroom, for we all should look equally into our students whether they are smart or not.

Although Teddy doesn’t know whether his teacher dislikes him or not, he sees Mrs. Thompson

as his mom and looks highly upon her. For him, his teacher is like his mother even though the
teacher isn’t making any efforts to help him. My emotions got high on the part Mrs. Thompson

open Christmas party gifts. It is clearly shown that the teacher felt guilty about Teddy so she

wept and did her best to help him. In the future, Teddy succeeded in his chosen career and he

was also lucky because he find love, what more could I ask for when this happened to me? The

inspiration for this is Teddy’s teacher.
