BADMINTON

WHAT IS BADMINTON ?
 Badminton is one of the most enjoyable racket
games that can be played by make or female of
any age or skill level
 It is a dual sports played in singles and in doubles.
 The objective is to hit the shuttlecock over the net
towards the opponent floor court in such a way
that it cannot be legally returned.
 Player or players who reach 21 points wins the
game.
HISTORY OF BADMINTON
HISTORY/ ORIGIN OF BADMINTON
 Place of origin is still debatable.
 The oldest evidence suggested that at
around the 5th century B.C the first
shuttlecock game is played. It involved
players using their feet instead of rackets to
hit the shuttlecock.
 It was over 2000 years ago that a similar
game is played called battledore.
 18th century - badminton first originated in
India during the time where it was called
Poona, after the name of the place where it
originated.
 1870 and 1880 - The British army were very
much fascinated by the game and they
introduced it in England.
 1893-
the first badminton association was formed in
England
 1899- All England Open Badminton was held
 1901- the court was converted to rectangular shape
 1934-
International Badminton Federation (IBF) was
formed.
 1948-
the Premier International Men’s team Thomas
Cup was establish .
 1956- uber cup was founded
 1977- the game was presented as a demonstration
sport in Munich, Germany Olympic Games
 1985-the sport is accepted as an Olympic Medal
Sports.
 1989- mixed double events began with the Sudirman
Cup.

BADMINTON PLAYING COURT

 Theofficial court is rectangle in shape, defined by lines 1


and a half inches wide. It measures 44 feet by 22 feet
wide for double game and 44 feet by 17 feet wide for
single game.
THE NET
 The
net shall be made of sine cord of dark color and
even thickness with a mesh of not less than 15 mm
and not more than 20 mm.
 The
net should be 760 mm in depth and at least 6.1 m
wide.
 1.524m height of the net at the center of the court
 1.55 m over the sidelines for doubles.
THE RACKET

 The racket is 680 mm in overall length in 230 mm in overall


width. Most quality rackets are now made of steel,
aluminum, carbon, graphite and titanium. The overall
dimension of a racket cannot exceed 26 ¾ inches in length,
9 in in width and 11 ½ inches in head length
SHUTTLECOCK

 Shuttlecocksor shuttles comes in two types: the feathered


and the synthetic. Synthetic is suitable for recreational
games but feathered or official or official shuttles must
weigh from 4. 74 to 5.50 grams with 14 to 16 feathers.
