1. Background of Issues

The Bam-Boo's is an ecommerce platform that provides a variety of fashion accessories

where masks are the main product. Not only masks, this e-commerce also sells some other
fashion accessories such as bando and scarf. The Bam-Boo's uses and utilizes unused
clothing and fabrics as its main material. By carrying out the concept of "Sustainable but
Suitable", through the remnants of used fabrics and clothes, we can make new fashion
accessories, which are suitable and suitable for use by their users and are not less stylish
than other products. The Bam-Boo's is also our contribution effort to the environment
from the impact generated by the fashion industry. Through The Bam-Boo's, in addition to
staying safe and being able to look fashionable, we can participate in reducing textile
waste for future survival.

2. What concerning your team's chosen problem

- The Textile Waste

The textile and apparel industry is the most popular manufacturing sector in the world[i]. Especially in this day
and age, the trend of the fashion industry is increasingly varied. However, the textile industry also has its dark
side that has a direct impact on the environment. These adverse impacts include that the textile industry is
responsible for contributing 10% of global carbon gas emissions, where these emissions are much greater than
emissions produced from international flights and sea shipping. Not only that, the textile industry also needs a
lot of water in its production process. According to estimates, it takes 2,700 liters of fresh water just to make one
cotton shirt, and not only does it need quite a lot of water, The textile industry also releases about 0.5 million
tons of microfibers into the sea every year, accounts for 35% of the primary microplastics released into the
environment, and is responsible for 20% of the global clean water pollution from dyeing and finishing products.
Sadly, with the large number of emissions and pollution produced, in fact textile waste is also one of the largest
contributors in landfills. Many people prefer to throw away clothes they no longer want as opposed to donating
them[ii].
- COVID- 19 Pandemic
When the Covid-19 pandemic occurred, people simultaneously experienced "panic buying" and flocked to buy
masks and various other kinds of health protection. In fact, not a few pharmacies and shopping centers ran out
of stock of medical masks when the pandemic occurred. As time goes by when the Covid-19 pandemic is
officially announced as endemic and the use of masks is no longer mandatory, in fact there are still many people
who use masks when leaving their homes, either to protect themselves or because they are comfortable and
used to it. However, in addition to costing many lives, the Covid-19 pandemic also contributed more mask waste
due to the use of disposable masks. The Covid-19 pandemic is estimated to generate up to 7,200 tons of medical
waste every day[iii].

5.1 How does it work

The Bam-Boo's uses and utilizes unused clothing and fabrics as its main material.
For the mask product itself, we use materials recommended by health institutions,
such as cotton, nylon and flannel which of course are also supported by the right
size to cover the nose and mouth area well but on the other hand still feel
comfortable to breathe. Not only masks, The Bam-Boo's also releases several other
products, such as bando and also scarf with various designs and choices that can
certainly support the style of the wearers. Carrying the concept of "Sustainable but
Suit;able", we want to make a product that can not only be worn sustainably, but
also comfort and aesthetics for its users. Through this concept, we would like to
convey that by regenerating existing products, we can also continue to look stylish
and trendy in a different way.
