Introduction

Practicum in agriculture, food and natural resources is designed to give students supervised
practical application of knowledge and skill practicum experiences can occur in a variety of
locations appropriate to the nature and level of experiences such as employment, independent
study, internships, assistantships, mentorships, or laborities. To prepare for careers in agriculture,
food and natural resources, students must attain academic skills and knowledge acquire technical
knowledge and skills related to the workplace.
On July 13, 2022 was the started date of our practicum and I was assigned to plant a Kangkong
in a given place by our municipal mayor Hon. Abdulbaki J. Ajibon Al-haj. The farming place is
in Sitio Lubak, Brgy. Angilan. Omar, Sulu.
On the first day upon the arrival in the said farming place, we immediately remove the
unnecessary lawn grass to have a more suitable place for planting by using the farming tools
which are the grub hoe, bolo, rake and bandle to layout the land. The farming land area assigned
on me was 5 meter in width and 10 meter in length.
I believe that taking the Practicum as a subject for my course was a very enriching experience. It
allowed me to engage in multiple activities and strive to improve in the field of agriculture. The
practicum ended on July 29, 2022.
1
CLEANING THE AREA

It was on June 14, 2022 where I was assigned to plant a Kangkong and on the same day, I
prepare the soil of planting by cleaning the area first. The tools that I used were the grub hoe and
a large heavy knife also known as bolo in tagalog.
2
CULTIVATING THE SOIL

After cleaning the area, the next step was cultivating the soil to loosen it so as to optimize the
retention and penetration of air, water and nutrients that needed in planting.
3
POLVORIZING THE SOIL

For plants to become established and to grow well, the soil particles need to be separated. This
means working the soil and pulverized it to separate the particles allow air to come in contact
with plants.
4
LAYOUTING THE AREA
Layout is the process of planning in which a proper development of land is intended a proper
sequence of plotting. This was the time I measure the spaces between where I plant my seeds by
using the tape measure and bandle. The land area is 5 meter in width and 10 meter in length.

5
PLANTING THE SEEDS OF KANGKONG

The process of putting seeds into the soil is called sowing. This is the primary process in the
cultivation of crops or agriculture. The soil is aerated and the seeds are sown.
6
SPROUTING OF THE SEEDS

After a few weeks of planting and proper watering of the seedlings, my kangkong were starting
to sprout for about 3-4 inches in height.

7
WATERING OF THE PLANTS

Proper watering is another extremely important part of planting, it needs consistent moist soil.
Because they can’t survive long without water, and should never be allowed to dry out
completely. However, never allow the soil to be wet all the time either. Soggy soil promotes pest
infestation and diseases that can kill the plants like damping off.

8
CLEANING THE SIDE OF FARMING LAND

Agriculture hygiene helps to protect crops from pests and disease, including insects, parasites,
pathogens, and weeds. Therefore, agriculture hygiene aims to minimize the introduction and
spread of pests in the farm environment.

9
HARVESTING

Harvesting is the operation of gathering the useful part or parts of the plant and is carried out at
the time when all the nutrients have developed and the edible parts have reached the appropriate
degree of maturity. In general, the harvest takes place 20 or 30 days after the grain has reached
physiological maturity.
The harvesting of my Kangkong happens on July 27, 2022 and the tools that were used was
garden scissors. By harvesting the Kangkong, cut the top leaves leaving about 2 leaf nodes from
roots for new stems to regrow.
