Course Description
This course is scheduled in a six-block schedule. Each class meets 56 minutes every Monday,
Tuesday and Friday and 101 minutes every Wednesday or Thursday. In a 180-day school year,
allowing 6 days for semester exams, class meets approximately 52 days each semester and 103
days each year. Approximately 15 to 18 of those days occur in late May, after the administration
of the AP Exam.
The purpose of AP Psychology is to introduce students to the systematic and scientific study of
the behavior and mental processes of human beings and other animals. Students are exposed to
the psychological facts, principles, and phenomena associated with each of the major subfields
within psychology.
Course Objectives
1. To learn about ourselves, demonstrate personal growth, and develop empathy for
others.
2. To increasingly become more sophisticated and responsibly skeptical critical
thinkers.
3. To foster skills and qualities that will lead to a smooth transition to college
learning.
4. To develop an appreciation and understanding of psychological principles and
how they can be applied positively to ourselves and society.
5. To be prepared and confident of success on the Advanced Placement Psychology
Exam.

Homework 15%
Retakes will be allowed under specific circumstances. Students always have options to
improve their grade.
Expectations
A high level of maturity and independence will be required from you in class. You will be
responsible for mastering material from our text and supplemental readings without the benefit
of discussing much of it during class time. On any given day, you can expect to be involved in any
of the following: lecture, collaborative activities, application activities, class discussions, writing,
demonstrations, presentations, reading, quizzes, etc. The major content topics will be explored
through independent reading, lecture, completion of chapter homework, and daily lessons.
Frequent quizzes will be given to help you check your understanding of the content.
Plagiarism Policy
Cheating will not be tolerated. Students who either provide or accept answers from fellow
students on quizzes or tests or falsely present another’s work as one’s own will be subject to
consequences such as parent contact, loss of points, and referral.
Tardy Policy: Students should be in their seats when the bell rings.
1st Unexcused Tardy:
● Student will be marked tardy
● Possible parent contact
2nd, 3rd and 4th Unexcused Tardy:
● Student reminded of policy, possibly kept after class and/or assigned Teacher Detention
● If student fails to attend Teacher Detention, student will be referred to Administration
● Parent contact will be made by 4th unexcused tardy
5th Unexcused Tardy:
● Student receives Citizenship mark of Unsatisfactory (U)
● Parent will be contacted and student will possibly be referred to Administration
Food, candy, or drinks other than water are allowed in the classroom but it is possible
that this privilege could be taken away. Cell phones and various other electronic devices
should not be out at any time unless being used for class. Textbooks can be left at home
but a charged chromebook should be brought to class each day.

Este curso está programado horario en unde seis bloques. Cada clase se reúne 53 minutos todos
los lunes y 106 minutos todos los martes / jueves o miércoles / viernes. En un año escolar de 180
días, con 6 días para exámenes semestrales, la clase se reúne aproximadamente 52 días cada

Se permiten alimentos, dulces o bebidas que no sean agua en el salón de clases, pero es
posible que se le quite ese privilegio. Los teléfonos celulares y otros dispositivos
electrónicos no deben estar fuera en cualquier momento a menos que se utilicen para la
clase. Los libros de texto se pueden dejar en casa, pero se debe traer a clase un
Chromebook cargado todos los días.
