Chemistry IA – Foaming Capacity

Procedure:
1. Procure my five varieties of soap:
a. Pears Pure and Gentle Soap
b. Godrej No. 1 Rosewater and Almond
c. Dettol Original Soap
d. Puric Instasafe Neem Turmeric Germ Protection Soap
e. Liril Lemon and Tea Tree Oil Soap
2. Procure my apparatus:
a. 5 100 ml conical flasks
b. 5 test tubes
c. 1 100 ml measuring cylinder
d. 1 test tube stand
e. 1 weighing scale
f. 1 stopwatch
3. Take my conical flasks, numbering them (1, 2, 3, 4, 5).
4. Fill the flasks with 80 ml of distilled water.
5. Add in 40 grams of soap, creating a 0.5g/ml solution of soap water upon heating for two minutes.
6. Taking the five test tubes, add in 4 ml of the soap solution to 12 ml of distilled water, changing the soap solution per
test tube.
7. Shake the test tubes vigorously for one minute each, and then measure the length of the foam.
8. Measure the time it takes for the froth to disappear in each test tube.
9. Record these measurements in a table.
