Bandit Hashtag Targeting & Scaling

One of the most powerful & underrated features on TikTok’s ads platform hashtag targeting
feature, and I can confidently assume 90% of you have never tried it

These allow you to test more finite audience pockets, to quickly identify what groups will
convert best for your funnel

Better yet, hashtag targeting allows you to steal your competitors brand name and drive
warmer, high converting traffic to your store at 1/5th the cost of a regular broad CBO

Here’s how I do it for my brands:

Day 1 - The Setup:

1. Let’s say I own an activewear brand, something very similar to Gymshark

2. I look for audience sizes of at least 1M+ per ad group. In this case, Gymshark has an
audience size of 8-10M+ with many other great hashtags to test.

3. Use 1 hashtag per ad group, but if the audience size is too small feel free to stack a few #s
to get it up to a 1M+ audience size

4. Set the budget between $25-50, create at least 10-15 ad groups with different hashtag
targets in each
Day 2 & 3 - The Heist:

1. Let it run for 24hrs without touching anything, let TikTok steal your competitors #s

2. Assuming you have a breakeven ROAS of a 1.5, duplicate every ad group with above a
1.8 or higher ROAS 2-5 times each. Cut anything that’s under your breakeven-ROAS

3. Continue scaling for 2-3 days (Day 4-6) until performance decreases, and make note of
which hashtags were the top performers

Day 7 & 8 - Money Laundering:

1. Remember those top performing hashtags from the prior campaign? Throw them all into
a $250 CBO, all #s within 1 ad group. Turn on ACO, turn on the dynamic CTA &
duplicate it 9 times for a total of 10 ad groups

2. Assuming you have 5 winning hashtags, you’d put #gymshark, #youngla, #alphalete,
#lululemon, & #ASRV in all within that 1 ad group

3. This campaign should perform extremely well, and should be relatively easy to scale by
simply duplicating the best performing ad groups 10x into a new $250 CBO.

4. Scale horizontally, test out different CBO budgets ($150, $500, $1000) and get to $5k a
day in ad spend
Day 9 & Onward:

1. Make derivatives of the prior scale campaigns. Found a few hashtags scaling well with
CBOs? Try it with cost cap, value optimization, and even ATC campaigns

2. The truth is, you never know what will work best for your niche/ad account/brand until
you try it. Throwing $20-50 at something random might find an unlock that could
generate a 5x ROAS. Remember that TikTok is still in its infancy, and there’s hundreds
of untapped methods waiting to be discovered
