Ad groups
We’ll be using 4 different types of ad groups, broad,
Stacked recommended interests 5-10, 1 ad group
use hashtag, 1 ad group would be niched stacked by
10-20 interest inside the ad group

Naming: “Standard Broad”, “Recommended Interests” or


“(Interest Names)”

Placement

Turn OFF Video Downloads

Targeting
This is where we make our variation between the four
types of ad groups. For the broad ad groups, we leave
this section completely blank.

For the recommended interests ad groups, we select


the option that fills in the targeting section with TikTok’s
recommendation - this is usually a prompt that shows
up above your interest targeting section, if you don’t
have it that means your account doesn’t have sufficient
data, in which case you want to skip the recommended
interests ad groups and just go with broad and single
target.

For the single target, you want to chose one single


targeting option that correlates with your product such
as “phone accessories” if you’re selling phone cases or
a relevant hashtag or a relevant creator. Make sure you
isolate one single targeting option.

Summary: we want to have three broad ad groups, four


with TikTok’s recommended interests and four with
single targets, as explained above. Skip the
recommended interests if your ad account doesn’t give
you that option.

Countries: USA & CA

Gender - No Limit (unless it’s obviously for a male or


female)
Age - 13+

Languages - No Limit

Targeting Expansion - leave it OFF

Budget & Schedule


Schedule - next day at 12am (00:00)
Don't touch anything else

Bid Strategy - Lowest Cost

Day Parting - test if you have obvious times or if you’re


not getting ATC or Purchases during the day

When To Turn Off Ad Groups

Turn OFF the campaign or change it:

2-3X Your profit margins before you make any changes


Early metrics - Once each ad group spends $7-10$

If CPC is over $1.50 immediately kill

CPM doesn't matter if you are profitable

If CPC is positive - under -$1.50 let it run and spend the


full $200

Once it spends the full budget I then analyse the key


data points - if 1 or more ad groups are profitable I move
it to stage 2 which is creative testing

STAGE 2

For creative testing you need to make a new campaign


and introduce the old winning creative and a new variant
that could perform better

The campaign setup is the same as stage 1 but instead


of 4 different audience your going to use the winning
targeting or ad group with new creatives

1st Scaling method

increase the budget on the winning ad groups by


30%-50/% every 2-3 days

If those work keep increasing the budget by 30%-50/%


every 2-3 days as long as you are profitable

If you’re not comfortable (capital-wise) doubling the


budget, then just keep it the same

In parallel to all of this duplicating, continue to test new


countries and new ads inside of your initial testing
campaign that you created - for example EU countries or
languages

MAKING NEW CREATIVES


There are 2 ways that you can freshen up your content

Making an entirely new video

Always make new creatives based on recent trends or


topics or video styles

An entirely new concept that is not remotely similar to


the original vid
Creating different iterations of your winning video
Change the text to speech
Change the music
New first clip
I’ve found that changing these aspects of the video has
completely refreshed my creative
What are the 3 main levers that you can pull when split
testing new ad creatives

Cost caps - take best performing audience and creatives
duplicate them into a new campaign 5 times

Set the Cost per purchase - you need to calculate it your


average CPP

For example lets say your CPP is $9

Set 1 ad group Cost cap to $7


Set 1 ad group Cost cap to $8
Set 1 ad group Cost cap to $9
Set 1 ad group Cost cap to $10
Set 1 ad group Cost cap to $11

The budget should be $100 per ad group, they wont


spend if they dont get results

Youll notice 1 out of the 5 will spend and be profitable


You increase the budget by $100 or more depending on
your budget

Increase every 2 days if profitable

Surfing scaling strategy

Take the ad groups that your scaling and on the days


they show very good results

I would double the budget every 3 hours if it performs

Once the day ends set it back to the original budget

What To Do If Your Budget Isn't Spending

Increase the ad group budget by $10 if no spend within 3 hours
