ACTION PLAN

MONTHLY REFLECTIONS BY

CURRENT YEAR IN PROGRESS

ACTION PLAN

HOW TO USE THIS GUIDE

1. Add brief reflections on day to day practice to your weekly or fortnightly

programs throughout the month. You can reflect daily or weekly.

2. At the end of the month identify 1 area from your plan that you would like
to reflect on & learn more about with the aim of contributing to your
professional & personal development. Choose more if you need to!

3. Add them to the reflection tool & fill in the spaces that meet your needs.
THE MAIN FOCUS

What 1 thing happened this month that you feel needs further focus? (see program)

discarding and saving water

Does this experience relate to personal or professional development? Why?

Professional development as it includes having all educators and children to be aware and apart of how water is saved and discarded
when needed.
THE HIGHLIGHTS

What are you most confident about with this chosen reflective focus area? Why ?

im most confident about how water is saved as there are many practices that are already in place at the service that allow for this such
as timer taps for the children, all toilets are on automatic half flushes and excess water is reused.

What made you feel less confident or didn't seem to work well? Why was that?

water isnt collected when it rains for the garden to water later on, and water from experiences and trough trays are poured down the
sink instead of into the garden or on the lawn.

Who did you discuss this with? What sort of feedback did you receive?
THE HIGHLIGHTS

On reflection, how  do you feel you handled this experience or situation?

i suggested new ways of doing it and encouraging others to do it as well, suggesting that policies and procedures are read
over to encourage changes into whats already being done, and add them to everyday pratices.

What strategies/skills or support did you need to use in this situation?

using the use of other staff members, their experiences as well as speaking to supervisors about the changes.

What made this experience/situation/approach/moment interesting to you?

this was interesting as it was a way to get not only staff and supervisors being aware of water saving and uses,
but it also is a way children can be involved as they are small simple things.
THE LEARNING

What did you already know about this area or experience?

knowing what practices are in placed and and that they aren’t being used.

What was something new you learnt ? Why do you think it matters?

Do you feel you need to seek out more professional development in this area?
What could that look like? What do you think would be helpful to you?

THE LEARNING

This learning matters to me because ......

How will you be able to now use this increased awareness or skill again?

showing the children through everyday practices of water useage and saving is a part of being aware of the enviroment

What could you possibly do differently next time in a similar situation ?

THE LEARNING

Where could you find more information & learning that relates to this area?

Who could help to mentor or support you accessing this information? How?

In light of this learning - what could this same experience look like for you next time?

MY GOALS OR CHANGES TO MAKE TIMEFRAME

QUESTION BANK

How did I take into account the needs, perspectives and opinions of
parents and their children in this situation?

Did my personal values and possible biases enter impact on my

experiences this week?

How did my own experiences and knowledge influence my

understanding and actions of a particular activity or interaction ?

How do my fellow educators, leader or view this situation or action?

What other theories might provide me with a different viewpoint on

this subject?

What does this action/environment/observation tell me about?

QUESTION BANK

How can I acknowledge, respect and value children’s diverse

identities?

How could my team members/coordinator/leader/friend help me in

this area?

Were there broader social and/political or emotional issues that

influenced my actions?

What knowledge did I use to reflect upon observations this week?

Did my usual assumptions mislead my practice somehow? What

assumptions can I challenge next time?

What did I learn about this? Why do I think that?

QUESTION BANK

How would I do it differently or better next time?

How might the outcome of that activity/experience been different if

I ……..

What do you think? Why is that? How does it work for you?

Why do you think your approach works more effectively than mine?

In what way are my choices determined by the expectation of my

early learning service/leader/coordinator/director?

What can I do next to further extend the children’s (or my own)

learning?
