DAILY LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 10

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to achieve 80% proficiency level:
a. Identify modals of verb used in expressing different functions;
b. Construct sentences using modals verbs following its function; and
c. Cite the importance of using these modal verbs in everyday living, especially in written
and spoken communication of ideas.

II. SUBJECT MATTER


Topic: ENGLISH 10
Lesson: Use of Modals
Materials: Paper strips written with words, Bell, PowerPoint presentation, TV, Printed quiz.
References: Teacher’s guide, MELCs pp 138, Grade English textbooks

III. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES

a. Prayer
The teacher asks one student to lead the prayer.
b. Greetings
The teacher greets the students.
c. Checking of Attendance
The teacher asks who’s absent among the class from column A and Column B.
d. Review
The teacher asks the last topic about verbs.
The teacher gives feedback about the lesson's meaning and examples.

e. Motivation
⮚ Let the students watch and listen to the lyrics of the song “Corona Virus Alert” by
Bobi Wine & Nubian Li.
Ask the questions:
1. Did you like the song?
2. What did you feel after you watched and listened to the song? Why did you feel
that way?
3. What is the message of the song?

IV. LESSON PROCEDURES


A. ACTIVITIES
⮚ The teacher integrates an activity entitled “YOU RAISED ME UP!” Students’
needs to be grouped into two (2).
⮚ Before discussing what modal is, project five (5) pictures on the monitor. Let
them tell you something about each picture.
*Probable answers
1.She is dancing.
2.She observes proper diet and exercise.
3.They are doing the duck, cover and hold.
4.He is not listening to his parents.
B. ABSTRACTION
⮚ Let the students create a sentence using modals then let them identify the
function of the modal they used.
She can dance.
1. We need to balance our diet by exercising and eating healthy foods.
(Health)
2. We should duck, cover and hold whenever an earthquake occurs.
(DRR)
3. You must respect your parents.
4. We must observe social distancing

⮚ Discuss what modal is.


⮚ Discuss its examples and functions.

C. ANALYSIS
⮚ Let the students answer an interactive quiz game.
(Students will have one representative to push the button as a signal that the
group will have the chance to answer the question. Group with the highest points
will win the game and earn points.)

D. APPLICATION
⮚ Divide the class into three small groups.

o Situation: Survival during pandemic is a challenge. To survive hunger and


thirst, you have to be accurate with all your actions or movements. Imagine
you are being quarantined and you are not allowed to go out for two weeks
and you need to measure things to survive famine and thirst.
o How would you measure your survival must-haves? Give the units your
measurement for each of the products below. Use appropriate modals in
writing your sentences.
⮚ Ask: “How did you feel after doing that activity? Do you think you can survive
a 14-day quarantine with all those unlimited things? How can you survive
such a situation?

V. EVALUATION
Administer 10-points quiz by filling the blanks with an appropriate modal.

1. There are plenty of tomatoes in the fridge. You can buy any.
2. It’s a hospital. You mustn’t smoke.
3. He had been working for more than 11 hours. He must be tired after such
hard work.
4. I could speak Arabic fluently when I was a child and we lived in Morocco.
5. The teacher said we may read this book for our own pleasure as it is
optional.
6. Can you stand on your head for more than a minute?
7. If you want to learn to speak English fluently, you ought to work hard.
8. Take an umbrella. It will rain later.
9. He had been working for more than 11 hours. He must be tired after such
hard work.
10. People must not walk on the grass.

VI. ASSIGNMENT
Write a two-paragraph reflection paper about the video clip. Write in a 1 whole sheet of
paper to be submitted at the next meeting April 1, 2021.
