During my last bachelor internship, I had to give three different presentations.

Two of 5 and
10 minutes to my classmates, respectively. The last one was a 20 minutes presentation
aimed for my internship coach, my school coach, friends and people that where in my lab
group.
The presentations of 5 and 10 minutes were the so called the interim presentations. In these
presentations the aim was to tell my classmates about the goal of my project, what research
I was doing, how I was doing it and about the results I have obtained.
 Logos: Literature evidence was used for establishing my hypothesis and
experiments. However, I did not specifically mention which literature during my
presentation due to the limited amount of time (5 and 10 minutes). Perhaps (in
retrospect) next time I could briefly mention this. Furthermore, I simply presented
my results chronologically. I think this was a good choice since the topic of my
research was quite complex.
 Ethos: I showed picture from literature and also images I created myself to illustrate
methods and experiments. These were really helpful not only for the audience but
also for me because this way it will be easy for me to explain the image. With the
exception of my own images all other images were cited in my PowerPoint
presentation. The feedback that I got on my body language and tone was that it was
just good and that I was nice to listen to.
 Pathos: During these presentations I did imply that the system that I created was a
“window” that could give me a view into the binding site of a protein on the DNA.
So, I did make use of at least one metaphor to clarify and explain the purpose of the
system I was working on.

During my last presentation the focus was a lot on my results and how I could verify my
findings with negative and positive controls. My logos, ethos and pathos were pretty much
the same as in the other to presentations. The reason why the focus was not so much on the
background was because my school supervisor and the second supervisor already read the
internship report. The biggest difference between this presentation and the other two was
as I mentioned before, the focus on my results and the audience that I had. Here my
audience had more knowledge about the subject, and I could focus on defending my results
rather than explaining how everything works. So, the goal of this last presentation was to
show that I was able to conduct reliable scientific research at HBO level in a hospital or
company.
