Summary
FactoryTalk View SE/RSView32: Log in another user after a period of inactivity
Problem
The FactoryTalk View SE Client can be configured to logout automatically after a period of inactivity.
When the current user is logged out, all currently open displays and cached displays are closed and the login
dialog is displayed.
This is configured in the FactoryTalk View SE Client wizard and may not have the desired results for some
applications.

Solution
The RSView32/FactoryTalk View SE Idle Detect Control ActiveX control (IdleDetect.ocx) is a utility that allows the
RSView32/FactoryTalk View SE system to execute a command or macro after a period of user inactivity.
Typically this control would be used to execute the Login command to login another user with restricted access
privileges. If the IdleState is set to False and there is no user input the control displays a count down of the
amount of time (in seconds) remaining until the IdleState is true. If the IdleState is set to True the control
displays the amount of time (in seconds) since the IdleState was entered.
Note: This ActiveX Control needs to be installed on any computer that will run a FactoryTalk View SE Client or
FactoryTalk View Studio or RSView32.
Instructions on how to use this ActiveX control within FactoryTalk View SE:
1. Add the RSView32/FactoryTalk View SE Idle Detect Control ActiveX to one of the
following:
All displays
A display that is always displayed (e.g. a common navigation bar)
A screen that is cached and always updating (for example, Display <gfx>
/ZA in startup macro)
2. Right click the RSView32/FactoryTalk View SE Idle Detect Control ActiveX control and
select the Property Panel menu option.
3. Set the Interval property to the number of seconds of no user input to wait before the
control raises the EnterIdleState and changes the IdleState property.
4. Right click the RSView32/FactoryTalk View SE Idle Detect Control ActiveX control and
select ActiveX Events... menu option.
5. Enter a macro or command for the EnterIdleState event that you want to occur
when the Interval inactivity time has been reached. Example command: Login
"ViewOnly" "viewonly"
6. You can also enter a macro or command for the ExitIdleState.
