Why is it essential to know the roles, functions and competencies of a counsellor?

Focus: RIGHTS, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND ACCOUNTABILITIES OF COUNSELORS


Motivation: “GUESS-THE-PIC” Hook
The students will analyse two (2) sets pictures shown to them by the teacher. Afterwards, they will
share their thoughts and observations of the pictures presented to the class.

The teacher will facilitate the discussion on the rights, responsibilities, and accountabilities of
a counselor. The examples will be given along with the discussion.

The students will read and analyze each statement and determine if the statement is TRUE or
FALSE.

Directions: Choose only one (1) scenario below and apply the ethical norms learned by providing a
“remedy” or the steps of action that a counsellor must do if ever he/she encounters the
following ethical dilemmas presented below. Justify all your answers. Don’t forget to put
your answers in a short bond paper.

1. A client confessed to his counselor that he accidentally killed a person. What do you think
should the counselor do? Should the counselor report his client to the police or not? Justify
your answer.

2. A counselor fell in love with his client, and the client also feels the same towards his
counselor. What steps of action should a counselor do? Justify your answer.

3. As the counselor converse with his client, the counselor found out that his client is faking his
identity. Should the counselor still conform to the ethical norms or not?

4. Ms. Simpson is a counselor; her client is her best friend’s husband. The couple has been
trying to work on their relationship but, one day when Ms. Simpson and her best friend’s
husband had a talk privately, the husband confessed that he is having an affair. What should
Ms. Simpson do? Should she tell her best friend about it or not?
