All coaches typically have the same types of drills:

Warm-Ups

Technical/Tactical Circuits

Passing Patterns

Tactical Situations

Rondos

Positional Games

Small Sided Games

Large Sided Games

What makes the difference between coaches is the level

of detail and understanding.

Analyze/Theorize the game itself in detail to gain a better understanding,
create a game model from this knowledge to teach, train through detailed
sessions filled with various (realistic) drills, and then play the matches.

Detailed analysis/thinking is the base to build on.

In essence, you have the theoretical background and then the practical
application - as with anything. Coaches all begin at different parts of that
chain.

Some learn first how to train very well, then improve the analysis and
understanding of games some the opposite etc

and by "train very well" I refer to the actual carrying out of the training
session and what is involved in that, not necessarily the content (which
would improve with better understanding of the game)

Don't you think that the quality of the relationship between coach/players
are even more important than this level of detail and understanding? For
sure, details are essential, but how can they survive with weak human
connections?

I think you are definitely right. In this case I refer more specifically to training
methods

I would move beyond just simply the technical/tactical. What makes
outstanding coaches is their understanding of themselves, the ability to
build relationships with all around them and great coaching skills.

I'd add the ability to flex the situation within a practice to equally challenge
the best and worst in the group. I'm still working on this but have seen
some great coaches manage it.

Many coaches have the tech/ tact at a certain level, the key differentiators
are normally around the social side. Personality, communication and
building rapport and trust with your players.

I agree and think this can be the difference between a good coach and a
great coach.

Depends on the age of players. Agreed but level of energy, storytelling and
engagement is hyper critical with under 14 year olds

Alignment between the exercises and with the style of play makes also a big
difference
