Diary of Work Experience 1st to 4th of March

Description of work: The shop is situated in the middle of Marshes Shopping Centre. It sells a large variety of music goods such as I-pods, CDs and music t-shirts. I spent my four days in the shop in the storage room security taping several of items and creating labels Why I choose HMV: It is a store I have great interest in the store as I am a music lover and wanted to experience what happened behind the scenes and what work was needed to keep the store up to date.

I priced all the new CDs and DVDs that arrived Placed a security tag on items that cost over 13 euro I ticked off all items

Training: I was taught how to use the security doors and how to use the security tagging machine Instructions: I was instructed on what CD's and DVDs needed tagging Interactions with staff/Customers: I had numerous conservations with Andrew and Kris Observations: I observed that a lot of CD's and DVDs need labelled every day. Problems: I set off the alarms twice forgetting the doors were alarmed. My perception of How others viewed my performance: I think that Andrew was pleased my performance as he commented on how well I worked that day

Created labels for new DVDS and CDs I place new CDs and DVDs beside the labels so they were ready for stacking Place sale stickers on some items Cleaned up empty boxes

Training: I learned how to create labels using the HMV computers Interactions with Staff/Customers: I showed a customer where the item was she was looking for. Problems: I needed to get used to using the labelling the machine. I practiced at it Mastered unfamiliar tasks: Using the Labelling Machine My perception on how others viewed my predormance: I feel that the others were happy with my performance as they complimented my work .

Day: Three Date: 03/03/10 Duties Preformed:

Worked on the floor, set the new DVDs in order Set them all in alphabetical order Took count of all the DVDs available Made labels for stray DVDs

Training: Showed how to place the DVDs alphabetical for example the had to be left out of DVD labels. Interactions with Staff/Customers: Advised a customer on what CD would be best as a present. Problems: Forgot to leave the the out in some of the labels. Mastered unfamiliar tasks: How to place the DVDs in alphabetical order. My perception on how others viewed my performance: I made an error a couple of times but I was told I needed to concentrated

The work I did for the past three days was put to the test today I have to label and security tag new CDs and DVDs Make new labels for them Sort them out on the shelf alphabetically

Training: No new training was needed as I learnt this throughout the last three days Interactions with Staff/Customers: I was instructed by a member of staff which CDs and DVDs needed sorting Mastered unfamiliar tasks: None My perception on how others viewed my performance: They were all pleased on how I worked they recommended me to leave my CV in for any part-time work that became available

Evaluation: I felt that my four days working in HMV gave me an insight in to what goes on behind the scenes on a shop. I was disappointed that I only had four days but i thoroughly enjoyed it. I found that it was very demanding and challenging and that kept me really intreseted. I feel that working in HMV opened my life to that hard work that is needed to maintain a shop.
