Problem 1 (20 points): A child having a mass of 30.0 kg jumps downward onto a trampoline at a speed of 4.0
m/s. If the average impulsive force of the trampoline is 800.0 N and it acts upon the child for 0.5 sec in a
vertically upward direction, determine the child’s velocity immediately after the trampoline force has been
applied. (Answer: 4.4 m/s, 17.2 m/s, 9.3 m/s, or 5.8 m/s)

Problem 2 (35 points): A bowler rolls a 16.0-lbm ball at a single stationary pin having a mass of 3.0 lbm. If the
ball strikes the pin with a speed of 9.0 ft/sec and the coefficient of restitution is e = 0.8, determine the speed of
the pin immediately after the collision. (Answer: 7.2 ft/sec, 1.5 ft/sec, 13.6 ft/sec, or 2.1 ft/sec)

Problem 3 (45 points): Two small spheres A and B, weighing 5 lb and 2 lb, respectively, are connected by a
rigid rod of negligible weight. The two spheres are resting on a horizontal, frictionless surface when B is
suddenly given the velocity v0 = (10.5 ft/s)i. Determine the linear momentum of the system and its angular
momentum about its mass center G. (Answers: L = 0.6522 lb-s, H = 0.2717 ft-lb-s)
