GUIDE

1. What is the A machine shop is a facility

meaning of machine with equipment and supplies
shop? for machining, a process
where parts are cut,
fabricated, and finished to
prepare them for use.
Machine shops are used in the
creation of new parts, as well
as repairs of existing
equipment and parts.

2.Who are the clientile -Manufacturing industry

of the machine shop?
-Car industries

-Building industries

Mechanic shop- one of the

clientele of a machine shop
are mechanics that needs
metal works that can’t be
done manually. An example
scenario is when there is a
problem in a machine and it
needs to be done using a
machine lathe or a milling
machine.Drivers and
Motorists – drivers are one of
the clientele because anytime
a vehicle might break down.
Machine shops are also
emergency stations for
vehicles where it can only be
fixed by a machinist with the
use of machine
tools.Automotive Industry-
Clients of a machine shop
includes metallurgists,
mechanics, engineers,
carpenters, masons. Machine
shops very useful for
individuals who needs cutting,
forming, shaping of metals
that cannot be done manually.
It is very useful especially for
mechanics and machinists and
also for us engineering
students.

3.What are the works or Welding In short, welding is a

job in the Machine process in which metals or
Shop,? thermoplastics are joined
through high heat. As the
parts cool, they then fuse. As
we go about our day-to-day
lives, we regularly rely on
products and structures that
were created through
welding, such as vehicles,
kitchen appliances, bridges,
and office buildings.

Machining Through
machining, parts are cut into
their final shapes. From hinges
to screws, machining plays a
crucial role in the production
of parts that are used in
various industries. While
machining is most commonly
associated with metal, it is
also used in making products
from other materials, such as
plastic, wood, and ceramic.

Metal Fabrication Fabrication

involves cutting, bending, and
assembling metal to
manufacture structures and
products. Metal fabrication
shops commonly offer
services such as welding and
machining. Through metal
fabrication, raw materials are
turned into a wealth of
different items, such as
machines, piping, and even
artwork.

Electric Motor Repair Signs of

electric motor trouble include
loss of power,
shaking/vibrating, and
overheating. When you need
electric motor repair, it's
important to entrust the work
to a shop that offers particular
expertise in this field.

5.Who are the employee This are some of the

of the machine shop? employees in a machine shop

Machine Operator- operators

set-up, operate, and maintain
machinery, usually in a
manufacturing setting. They
are responsible for ensuring
the machine produces high
quality products, runs
smoothly and at capacity, and
is properly maintained.

Entry Level Machine

Operator- focuses on creating
and using software for the
development of artificial
intelligence (AI).....Employers
often use this position as a
type of extended learning
period to help you develop
your skills before you start
taking responsibility for major
projects.

Shop Assistant- offers

assistance and sells products
to customers in a shop or
retail outlet. Their primary
duties include arranging
products on the display
shelves, processing payments
and keeping the shop clean.

6.What may constitute 1. In part

the equipment of a
machine shop? 2. Certain standard
machine tools

3. The kind

4. The size

5. Number of machine
depend on course

6. The product of the shop

7. Tools used in bench work

8. Measuring tools

9. Adjusting tools
10. Work holding

11. Tool holding accessories

12. Small tools used in the

machines

7.What are the tools Lathe - a metal turning

and equipment of the machine tool in which the
machine shop? work revolving on a horizontal
axis acted upon the cutting
tool.

Drilling machine - used for

producing holes of a metal.

Shaper machine - used for

finishing flat or partly curved
surfaces of metal pieces.

Planer machine - machine

used in the production of flat
surfaces on pieces too large or
too heavy perhaps too
awkward to hold in a shaper.

Milling machine - tool in

which metal is removed by
means of a revolving cutters
with many teeth which
revolves its shape of stock.

Grinding machine - machine

tool in which an abrasive
wheel is used as a cutting tool
to obtain very high degree of
accuracy and smooth finish of
metal parts, including soft and
hardened metal.

Boring mill - a machine tool

used for enlarging the hole, by
means of single cutting tool.
2 Types of Boring Mill

A. Vertical boring mill

B. Horizontal boring mill

8.What are the standrad 1. Lathe machine- a

machine tools/ machining tool that is used
equipment, and thier primarily for shaping metal or
meaning and function or wood. It works by rotating the
uses? workpiece around a stationary
cutting tool. The main use is to
remove unwanted parts of the
material, leaving behind a
nicely shaped workpiece.

2. Drill press- a versatile

machine that uses a multiple-
cutting-edged drill bit secured
in a rotating chuck to bore and
drill holes, normally into wood
stock.

3. Shaper machine- a
reciprocating type of machine
basically used for producing
the horizontal, vertical or flat
surfaces. The shaper holds the
single point cutting tool in ram
and workpiece is fixed in the
table.

4. Planer machine- metal-

cutting machine in which the
workpiece is firmly attached
to a horizontal table that
moves back and forth under
a single-point cutting tool

5. Milling machine- removes

material from a work piece by
rotating a cutting tool (cutter)
and moving it into the work
piece. Milling machines, either
vertical or hori- zontal, are
usually used to machine flat
and irregularly shaped
surfaces and can be used to
drill, bore, and cut gears,
threads, and slots.

6. Grinding machine- is one of

power tools or machine tools
used for grinding. It is a type
of machining using an
abrasive wheel as the cutting
tool. Each grain of abrasive on
the wheel's surface cuts a
small chip from the workpiece
via shear deformation.

7. Boring machine- is the

process of enlarging a hole
that has already been drilled
by means of a single-point
cutting tool, such as in boring
a gun barrel or an engine
cylinder. Boring is used to
achieve greater accuracy of
the diameter of a hole, and
can be used to cut a tapered
hole.

8. Turret lathe- is a form of

metalworking lathe that is
used for repetitive production
of duplicate parts, which by
the nature of their cutting
process are
usually
interchangeable.

9. Slotter- a machine tool for

shaping vertical surfaces
with a cutting tool held in a
vertically reciprocating ram.

10. Gear cutting machine- a

metal-cutting machine tool for
cutting gears, worm gears,
and gear racks. Depending on
the tool used, a distinction is
made among gear-milling
machines, gear shapers, gear
planets, and finishing
machines (shaving, grinding,
honing, lapping, generating,
and chamfering).

11. Special machine- a semi or

100% automatic machine
which allows specific
operations dedicated to a
product or a family of
products to be carried out.
These machines can carry out
one or more operations, for
example, assemblies, vision
checks and packaging.

and puts them together.

3. Machine hand - is one who

has very little general machine
shop knowledge but who has
operated a special machine
long enough to be skillful in a
variety of work on this
machine.
4. Machinist helper - a helper
knows the names and uses of
the various small tools used
in the machine shop.

5. Specialized machinist - is
one who has had some
general machine shop
experience and has made a
specialty of someone's
machine or someone's class
of work

Activity 1 is all about machine shop, who's the clientele in the shop, who are the employees in the
shop and different types of machine we see inside the shop. Now I understand that every machine
has a different machinist. Using a machine with no knowledge about the machine me cause failure
and it could lead the machine broken. This research shows on how important to be an mechanical
engineer that it needs to know every basictools and machines that we will use in our works. This
research help me by the way it gives knowledge how to deal when we are already in a machine shop.
