Connecting to Remote Access from Home:

Purpose of Access
The purpose of providing remote access is to allow you access to your VDI desktop to allow you to
copy critical documents\work from your College Drive to your cloud-based storage such as
Microsoft OneDrive \ Google Drive etc. This access will be for a limited amount of time to allow
capacity management across the College infrastructure therefore we don’t want you to copy every
file from your shared drive, just the critical files to allow you to continue your studies in the
short term.

Files for specialised packages (Adobe Premier, National Instruments etc) should not be copied if
you do not have the package installed at home or files that are not Microsoft Office files
that are greater than 200MB that are not essential (videos, programming projects).

The IT Team are currently working on “Phase 2” access to provide longer term access to your VDI
environment to allow you to contiune to access the College Systems remotely. We will
communicate via your Lecturers when this is in place.

Accessing your College Desktop via Citrix using a PC, iMac or Laptop (else go to page 3)

Type in https://remote.cityofglasgowcollege.ac.uk into the address bar as shown below. (or click
the blue hyperlink)

Type in your usual College Username ((e.g. student number) 30031234) and Password and it will
launch the page below. Click on Use Light Version if presented with the option.
Successfully Logged in?
You will see the college logo on the top left, in the middle you will have 3 options, choose
“Desktops” (circled below in blue).

Double click on the on the Virtual PC Monitor Icon (see circled below in red) and wait.

Click OK from the screen illustrated below and your Windows 10 Virtual Desktop will launch.
Mobile Device Users (Mobile Phones and Tablets)

For the best possible user experience, it is strongly advised you access Citrix Workspace
using a PC, iMac or Laptop. But if you have no choice other than using your mobile phone
or tablet please follow the instructions below.

Android Users; The Phone/Tablet Android App for Citrix Workspace is available from the Google

Apple Users (iOS); The iPhone/iPad App for Citrix Workspace is available from the Apple App Store:

App downloaded and installed?

 Open the App


 When prompted for the “Enter a Valid Email or Server Address” type the address below;
 https://remote.cityofglasgowcollege.ac.uk and tap OK.
 Enter your standard username and password
 Tap “Desktops” (if prompted)
 Double Tap on the Virtual Desktop to launch it and wait. For best results turn your device
to landscape to rotate the screen.

Student Network Drive to Cloud Storage


Once into your screen, you should access your student drive as normal and upload your files to
your cloud-based storage such as Microsoft OneDrive \ Google Drive etc. to let you work on these
from outside the College.
