I. Essay (10 items)

1. In your own understanding, discuss the ff. (5pts. Each)

a. Empty Weight CG Range (EWCG)
b. Comprehensive Equipment List

Answer:
Let’s define first the Empty Weight; the empty weight is the weight of an aircraft
that includes all operating equipment that has a fixed location. It also includes the
weight of the airframe, powerplant, required equipment, optional or special equipment,
fixed ballast, hydraulic fluid, and residual fuel and oil as indicated in the specification.
On the other side, the EWCG (Empty Weight Center of Gravity) is only the items
specified in the aircraft empty weight.
My understanding in Empty Weight CG Range is it is an allowable variation of
travel within the CG limits. When the empty weight center of gravity falls within this
range, it is impossible to exceed the EWCG limits using standard specification loading
arrangement.
Here’s my understanding on the Comprehensive Equipment List. Comprehensive
Equipment List is composing of symbols like numbers and letters that describe the part
specifically. Comprehensive Equipment List is also used to avoid confusion with the
airplane-specific equipment list. Each item has an assigned coded number. The first two
digits of the code represent the ATA specification like chapter 11 for placards, chapter
21 for air conditioning, chapter 77 for engine indicating, and many more two digit code
to specify the first two digits of Comprehensive Equipment List. After the first two digits,
an item will have a unique sequence number, 01, 02, 03, and many more. After the
sequence the number, a suffix letter is assigned to identify equipment as a required
item. Every letter has a stand or meaning, R is for required items for FAA certification, S
is for standard equipment items, O is for optional equipment items replacing required or
standard item, and last is A is for optional equipment item which are in addition to
required or standard items. The best example of it is the model 182S airplane of Cessna
equipment.
