Answer:
My understanding about the law of lever is weight or lever is balanced when the
sum of moments of the fulcrum is zero. Weight and balance in aircraft are based on the
law of the lever because the aircraft should be balanced symmetrically. The lever can
be considered balanced when the positive moments are equal to the negative moments
and are equal to zero. CG or Center of Gravity is a point at which the weight of an
aircraft is assumed to be balanced. In referring to aircraft’s datum position, it varies on
aircraft’s design and manufacturer.
One of the easiest ways to understand weight and balance is to consider a lever
with weights placed at various locations. The balance point or CG of the lever can be
changed by either moving the weights closer or farther from the fulcrum or by increasing
or decreasing the weights. For example, I and my friend playing in a seesaw, but my
friend weigh a lot more than me. I could position myself at a certain distance from the
fulcrum so my lighter bodyweight counters my friend's body weight, allowing the seesaw
to be in equilibrium or balance.
The four steps are used to determine the balance point and prove that balance is
correct. I cannot expound more the words to say to define the four steps to determine
the balance point because it is just only a guide for proving and determining the balance
point thru mathematical equation.
