ACTIVITY SHEET # 3

1. What change could be made to incorporate more/better scientific understanding in

one of the lessons we did today?
One change that I deem would be helpful in retaining the concepts discussed
today would be allowing students to formulate their own situations where the five
scientific methods can be applied. Similar to the former, encouraging the students to
assess themselves by choosing one among the scientific traits that describe them best
and sharing why is it so with the class can also aid in retention. I believe that giving
learners time to absorb and apply these concepts to themselves and their experiences
is the most effective way for better understanding.

2. Discuss how scientific and technological developments affect society and the
environment.
The impacts of the two in society and to the environment is plentiful ranging from
beneficial and harmful. As I recall from the first lecture, with science, it can aid society in
providing solutions for contemporary issues. Whilst with technology, it can contribute
through its influence and the advancements it has brought in daily living. It is with the
existence of science and technology that society was able to evolve and is the improved
version of what it is now. Since the two are made mostly to benefit mankind, sadly, it is
to be expected that its harmful consequences would befall the environment. It has
damaged the environment primarily through pollution and the depletion of natural
resources. Although those are mostly due to misuse of technology, it is still the
responsibility of humanity to use science to come up with solutions for these problems.

3. Which of the following scientific traits and attitudes do you possess? Why (at least 5).
Out of the ten traits, I suppose the ones that I closely associate myself with would
be curiosity, objectivity, critical mindedness, open mindedness, and responsibility. If I
were to assess myself in a learner’s perspective then I observe that when encountering
new concepts I am eager to learn and pay close attention to it as much as I can. When I

do not understand the concepts well, I seek solutions to my queries by either asking or
researching on my own. I also do not let my emotions or any prejudices I might have
influence my observations, data interpretation, or conclusion formation. Moreover, I
base my opinions and recommendations purely on evidence. When I am in doubt, I
question a statement's credibility by investigating for evidence that either supports or
debunks the statement. In addition, I attend to and appreciate other people's ideas. If
credible data presented to me contradicts what I formerly believed, I would not hesitate
to take criticism and adjust my mind to it. And lastly, I ensure that I play an active role in
a task and fulfill it to the best of my ability.

4. Which of the following scientific traits and attitudes do you need to develop? Why (at
least 5).
As much as I want to focus on improving the five traits I may already possess, I
also want to practice the five remaining attitudes which are belief, inventiveness,
risk-taking, intellectual honesty, and humility. Again, if I were to assess myself in a
learner’s perspective then I observe that I lack the belief that everything that unfolds in
the world has a reasoning or consequence. I often presume that some things would turn
out better in my end if they did not happen at all. I also don’t have the ability to come up
with new and unique ideas myself. I always end up relying on others for ideas.
Furthermore, I frequently avoid voicing out my opinions and trying new ideas for I am
afraid of failure. Besides, I tend to keep critical information to myself or to only a
selected group of people since I do not like people who I view as undeserving to have
access to it. Finally, I find it difficult to acknowledge that there may be better ideas than
mine and that I may need to consult others at times in order to arrive at accurate
conclusions. I am so used to working independently and leading the group that I might
have pushed down my perspectives to other people too much.
