A STRANGE CHANGE
By Hesed A. Mendoza

One morning I look outside my window

With the bright sunlight hitting my eyebrow
Felt the warm breeze all over my body
It’s going to be a good day for me

I planned for a swim or a mountain hike

Tag along my friends on picnic near the dike
Thinking the hot weather will be perfectly fine
Dry season will be a friend of mine
But suddenly the skies turned dark and gray
The wind starts blowing cold that day
And the rain comes down falling fast
We can’t go out for our planned task

We started wearing jackets as in turns colder

And decided to stay indoors is better
Ohh the plans for the sunny day has changed
And the rain has keep us inside feeling strange

Ask: What do you think is the poem about? Based on the poem, what can
you say about change of plan/activities? Have you experienced the same?

Show video clip that tells about difference of dry and wet season here in the
Philippines. After watching the video clip, let the pupils answer the following guide
question.
1. What can you say about the first video?
2. How about the second video? What can you say about it?

Science skill # 1
The teacher will provide the video clip to
their pupils. This video clip tells about
difference of dry and wet season here in
the Philippines. After watching the video clip answer the following guide question.
1. What can you say about the first video?
2. How about the second video? What can you say about it?
3. Are they different? How?

“What do you observed in these pictures?” Can you tell me what kind of season are
all these pictures?” Are they different?

The condition of our environment is ever-changing.it does not only affect our comfort
but also determines what activities we can carry on at certain times. This may be as
simple as deciding whether to go on picnic on a bright sunny day or just stay at
home and enjoy reading or story telling with the rest of the family during stormy
days. It may also be as critical as deciding what crops to plant during the rainy
season and during the dry season. This is a major concern of farmers, since the
Philippines is the principally an agriculture country.

Science skill # 2 What is a season?

According to the National Geographic.org, season is a period of the year that is

distinguished by special climate conditions.

Using the globe, locate our country. Here in the Philippines, using temperature and
rainfall as bases, the climate of the country can be divided into two major seasons:
(1) the rainy season, from June to November; and (2) the dry season, from
December to May. The dry season may be subdivided further into (a) the cool dry
season, from December to February; and (b) the hot dry season, from March to May.

What are reasons for seasons?

Earth has seasons because its axis is tilted. Earth's axis is always pointed in the
same direction, so different parts of Earth get the Sun's direct rays throughout the
year. For example, in summer, the Sun's rays hit that region more directly than at
any other time of the year.
