A SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 8

GRADE LEVEL AND SECTION : 8 – HONESTY CLASS SCHEDULE : 08:30 – 09:30 A.M.

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
a. identify the elements of a short story;
b. create a story map; and
c. appreciate the significance of the elements in understanding real life situations.

II. Subject Matter


a. Topic : Elements of a Short Story
b. References: Language in Literature 8 (Afro-Asian Literature) by Galvez, N. Jr., Malicsi, M.A., Lourdes, R.,
pages 110-113
c. Materials : LCD TV, laptop, PowerPoint Presentation
d. Values Focus: cooperation

III. Learning Procedures (5 minutes)


A. Preliminary Activities
A.1. Prayer and Cordial Greetings
The teacher calls on a student to lead the prayer followed by the greetings.
A.2. Checking of Attendance
The class monitor checks the attendance of the students.
A.3. Review
The students are asked to give a recap of the previous topic.
A.4. Presentation of Lesson Objectives
The lesson objectives are given to students for their awareness.

B. Lesson Proper
B.1. Activity
LIT YOUR IMAGINATION (10 minutes)
The learners will create 5 groups with 6 members each.
The teacher will post pictures on the board for the learners to see. She will ask the groups to
compose a very short story using the pictures. A group representative will tell their short stories.

B.2. Analysis (5minutes)


The teacher will ask the learners:
* How were you able to compose your own stories?
* What were the elements you used in making your stories?

B.3. Abstraction (15 minutes)


The teacher will discuss about the elements of a short story:
Character – the central mover in the story
Setting - the time and place where the story happened
Plot - the sequence of events
Conflict - the problem in the story; makes it more dramatic
Theme - the central idea or belief

After the discussion, the teacher will ask the learners:


* How can the elements of a short story help you understand real life situations?

B.4. Application (10 minutes)


The learners will do a dyad activity from which they will create a story map of a story among the
stories discussed to them in the quarter. The teacher will choose 3 pairs to share their outputs to
class.
IV. Evaluation (10 minutes)
General Directions: On a one half crosswise sheet of paper answer the following.
A. Identify the Element of a Short Story

Have a research about the following. You can use books or search engines in the internet to find answers.
1. What is a sequel?
2. What are the processes needed to make a sequel?
3. Give a story with a sequel.
