HOST OF THE EVENT
 The 44 th chess Olympiad will be held in chennai 2022
 India is hosting the event for the 1st time
 In Asia it is been hosted after 30 years
 The event was initially supposed to take place in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia,
along with the Chess World Cup 2019, but was later moved to Moscow
However, it was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic[6] and then
relocated to Chennai following Russia's invasion of Ukraine
ORGANISER OF THE EVENT
 THE FIDE International Chess Federation (FIDE) is the organizer of
the event
 FIDE currently has its headquarters in Lausanne (Switzerland), but it
was initially founded in 1924 in Paris under the motto “Gens Una
Sumus” (Latin for “We are one Family”).
THEME OF THE EVENT
The theme of the event was ‘ unity in diversity ;
MASCOT OF THE EVENT
The official mascot was named "Thambi" (transl. younger brother), a chess knight
dressed in the traditional Tamil male attire vēṭṭi with a white shirt. He was depicted with
folded hands, extending the Tamil greeting "Vanakkam".[88] The mascot appeared on
billboards, statues and posters. Commentators compared Thambi to 'Appu', the mascot
for the 1982 Asian Games

MEDALS WON BY INDIA

 A total of seven individual medals were won - 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 4 Bronze.
 The India 'B' team settled for a bronze medal in the Open section while the India 'A'
women's side also finished third in the 44th Chess Olympiad here...
RANKING FOR THE WINNERS
 UZBEKISTAN won the open section
 Ukraine won the women section
 India won bronze for both the matches

The first official Commonwealth Games, then known as the British Empire Games, were
held in 1930 with Canada’s Hamilton as hosts

MEDALS INDIA WON

 India won 61 medals at Birmingham 2022.

 At CWG 2022, Indian athletes won 61 medals, 22 golds, 16 silvers and 23 bronze
 at the Commonwealth Games 2022. Sanket Sargar was the first Indian to win a
medal in Birmingham, bagging a silver in the men's 55kg weightlifting event
 Mirabai Chanu was the first Indian to win a gold at CWG 2022 while Jeremy
Lalrinnunga was the first Indian man to clinch top podium at Birmingham.
 Sudhir won the first medal for India, a gold, in para sports at the CWG 2022.
