Introduction to Ludwig: Oh, have you seen our speakers for Introduction to the First
the First Speaker today, Florie? Aren’t you excited? Speaker slide
Florie: I am super excited, enthralled with our
speakers for today because I have been (and we
all know that as english majors) that we have
been just seeing their names on our readings
about Philippine English and now we have been
given the chance to finally meet them and I’m
sure I’m not the only one. So, without further
ado, let us have our first speaker for today.
Lecture Proper Ludwig: Thank you so much, Dr. Dita, for that Dr. Dita’s talk slide
informative AND NOT TO MENTION
PASSIONATE talk. I particularly liked the Dr. Dita’s powerpoint
comprehensive three-pronged discussion on the
phonological, lexical, and grammatical features
of PE. Shattering inequalities and confronting
hierarchies that haunt the language ladder. How
about you, Florie?
Open Forum Ludwig: I’m sure our participants were as Dr. Dita’s talk Open
interested as we were in the discussion. As this Forum slide
event seeks to benefit all of us, we are
encouraging you to ask about anything regarding Hosts to alternately

Florie: If you still have questions, don’t hesitate
to drop them in our chat box on Zoom and Hosts to alternately
comment on our FB live. read questions from

1. REGINE AMADOR GANDULLAS, New
Era University
Has Philippine English been recognized
by our government?
2. Mark Louie Canaveral, PUP-CAL
As linguists, even though we see that
there is no variety of English that is more
prestigious or superior than the other,
why do you think we still impose the strict
implementation of the standard English
language in our education curriculum?
3. Venessa C. Bautista, Limay Polytechnic
College
There are English words that are misused
(meaning) by Filipinos. As an English
teacher can we consider those words
correct when used by our students just
because that is how those words are used
in the Philippine context? Examples:
Sinalvage si Mang Boy kagabi. Traffic sa
Edsa. Nagcommute ka?
4. Noah F. Acedo, Sacred Heart School -
Ateneo de Cebu
How does prescriptive English affect the
standardization of other Englishes in the
world, especially Philippine English?
Awarding of Ludwig: To show our appreciation for the time Awarding of Certificate
Certificate given to us by Dr. Shirley N. Dita, let us call on slide

cameras for the photo opportunity? certificate
Lecture Proper Ludwig: A big thanks to Dr. Tupas for that very Dr. Tupas’ title slide
informative discussion about Unequal Englishes.
I honestly think it was helpful to unravel the
legacy of imperialism that has continued to haunt
the hierarchies of English, such as native-
speakerism, so we can shatter misconceptions
that propel us to have an apologetic stance for not
speaking the language with perfect fluency. More
importantly, I wanted to foreground how he
problematized the concepts of ESL/EFL as
complicit, if not indicative, of ideological bias. In
my opinion, the concept of Unequal Englishes is
a useful framework with which to situate, not to
mention interrogate, existing linguistic injustices.
Florie:
I have been just taking notes with your talk and I have
found here one of our readings which is your written
work about unequal Englishes which justifies my
realization about unequal englishes
That
NO ONE HAS EXCLUSIVE RIGHTS TO THE
LANGUAGE; ANYONE WHO SPEAKS IT HAS THE
RIGHT TO OWN IT.
also..
The English language is deeply embedded in the
multilingual and multicultural lives of its speakers.
Open Forum Ludwig: Moving forward, I think our Dr. Tupas’ talk Open
participants are also hooked as we are. So, again, Forum slide
