PERSUASIVE ESSAY

Is mankind to blame for global warming? For the time being, the

Earth turns out to be more and more polluted day after day, which is

mostly the result of humans’ industrial activities. The possibility of

humans being the only cause of climate changes is now no longer

obscure.

To begin with, it is humans’ everyday activity that lets greenhouse

gases come off and harm the global air quality. Various energy

sources, including fossil fuels, oil, petrol, emit a great amount of carbon

dioxide, methane, and nitrous dioxide. These gases then trap heat in

the atmosphere surrounding the Earth, which results in increasing

global temperatures. According to the United States Environmental

Protection Agency (EPA), worldwide net emissions of greenhouse

gases used for human activities, such as transportation or energy

production, rose by 43 percent between 1990 and 2015. The statistics

do speak up and act as a credible piece of evidence for the statement

accusing mankind of contaminating the air.

In addition, the reduction of forests globally also exerts negative

impacts on global warming. Annually, the forest area is narrowed

substantially. Though forests bring many benefits to the Earth’s

atmosphere, people still cut down about 15.3 billion trees a year, as

stated in a study of Nature.

Some may argue that, aside from greenhouse gases emissions, there

are limitless natural factors that contribute to climate changes. For

instance, volcanic eruptions, along with any changes in the orbit and

rotation of the Earth, are allegedly the grounds of this phenomenon.

However, there must be a limit to the influence of these natural factors

as they occur frequently and have existed for such a long time - ever

since the Earth was formed. It is what humans have done that put

forward the process of climate change.

To conclude, it is visible that humankind is totally at fault for climate

changes. Nevertheless, as problems of the environment are gaining

more attention from both experts and normal individuals, solutions to

this threatening phenomenon are likely to be given out at any time.

OPINION ESSAY
Draft
Due to the advancement of technology, applications are becoming

more and more sophisticated, as well as appealing to smartphone

users. That is the reason why many people hold the belief that these

applications are what make users deeply immersed in smartphones.

From my perspective, I partially agree with the opinion above.

However, I am convinced that applications are merely one of many

causes of reliance on smartphones.

On the one hand, the system of applications assists humans

tremendously when it comes to performing and completing tasks. In

the present, not only making calls or exchanging messages,

smartphones can also help with our study, work, and even

entertaining. To put it another way, almost every task in our life can be

accomplished if we own a smartphone. For instance, applications for

plans, or focus timer, notes are beneficial for studying and working.

They contribute to people being more prepared and productive.

On the other hand, I presume that humans being addictive also

depends on the environment and their own condition. In detail, when

people surrounding us use electronic devices frequently, we tend to

follow that habit, even without our awareness. In addition, as people

do not feel well mentally, or are under pressure, they may manage to

search for something to freshen themselves. And applications on their

smartphone can come to the rescue because of their convenience.

To conclude, it is my firm belief that, although applications remain a

major root of smartphone addiction, there are still, both subjective and

objective, reasons for the incident. I am convinced that, with full

awareness and moderate use of smartphones, addiction can be

avoided.

DESCRIPTIVE NARRATIVE ESSAY
Draft
Nearly half a century has passed, Vietnam may no longer undergo

difficulties during wartime, however, contemporary stories will remain

forever. My grandfather used to tell me stories of various genres and

about diverse topics when I was a child. From time to time, he chose to

relate stories about his own experience, not only to expand my

knowledge of my compatriots' lives in the past, but also to nurture my

patriotism and gratefulness. I still remember the story in which my

grandfather survived after the bombardment from the US. The event

occured on October 17th, 1965 in Thai Nguyen. Due to his description,

it was a totally frightening, yet common, experience during the time.

My grandfather was assigned to work in Thai Nguyen just before the

incident. It was on a beautiful Sunday that he decided to have a walk

and go sightseeing in the area of Gia Bay Bridge. When he was only

hundreds of meters away from the bridge, a group of approximately

thirty warplanes suddenly appeared in the sky. My grandfather was

astonished and immediately in a hurry trying to find an air raid shelter.

He got down there with a small number of people. The shelter was

constructed rudimentarily with wooden planks. It was narrow, low and

damp. Mosquitoes and insects were everywhere, buzzing around

everyone present at the time. The warplanes started releasing bombs

and missile right into Gia Bay bridge and the surrounded area. Though

it was not my grandfather’s first time facing a lethal situation as he

was, he told me he was extremely stunned. He could feel his fear

enlarges, feel his heart beats, feel every single bomb blasts outside the

shelter. From my grandfather’s tone, I could tell that the experience

was certainly traumatizing. Just the idea of hearing bombs exploding

within close range has already terrified me. However, the story did not

stop there.

A while after the bombardment came to a halt, people from shelter

rushed out. Honestly, I felt relieved that my grandfather was not

injured seriously. Yet a heart-breaking scene. The area bombed was in

awful condition: the bridge collapsed, houses were destroyed, or on

fire, bomb craters were all over the place. Especially, the river was

covered in red because of blood from casualties.

To me, the story was unforgettable. It gave me a clear picture of how

devastating a war was. I am grateful to my predecessors for having

sacrificed to bring to our generation peace and a better future.

SELF REFLECTION
After finishing my writing portfolio, I gained some experience and

improved my adaptability to the English specialist setting. In this

paper, I'd like to share some of my improvements as well as my

comments on this course.

First and foremost, I had the opportunity to brush up on my linguistic

skills. My writing ability is where I've made the most progress. I was

taught how to correctly organize my essay and develop the primary

ideas in order to match the topic's requirements in great detail. Not

only did I improve my ability to communicate my views, but I also

learnt how to deal with various types of essays.

However, I am well aware that my advanced vocabulary is very

limited. Sometimes it's difficult for me to express myself clearly in

writing. Furthermore, I make mistakes from time to time. Some words

are misused, or the improper collocation is used. As a result, I believe it

is important for me to expand my vocabulary.

There are a variety of approaches employed in the Reading and

Writing course to help us improve our skills. Studying now is more

interesting and productive. Students, for example, are forced to work

in organizations on a regular basis. As a result, students can improve

their collaborative abilities while also learning from one another.

21
SELF REFLECTION
Furthermore, the students must develop presentations concerning the

lessons in groups. This allows us to improve our self-research skills

and be better prepared for the lesson. Furthermore, the instructors are

quite helpful and enthusiastic. They are always willing to answer our

questions and clarify things further so that we are all clear about the

work

To make the course more engaging to students, I propose that specific

lessons be revised frequently. We may feel a little overwhelmed by the

knowledge and assignments because we have to learn and write in

virtually every lesson. The revision does not have to be exhaustive or

time-consuming. It could be in the shape of a tiny activity or a

minigame.

To sum up, I am grateful for the opportunity to take a course with a

well-organized curriculum and a professional program. I can certainly

see myself progressing in my studies, particularly in all of the

improvements listed above. I'm hoping that during my forthcoming

journey, I'll be able to easily absorb and use what I've learned..
