Activity 3. Special Connection – 20 points

Choose two organisms of your that you think are most likely related. Then complete the
following table. After that, answer the processing question. Always cite your reference(s) at the
end of the output.

1. What evidence of evolution supports the idea that those two organisms above are closely
related? Then add how that evidence support such close relationship.
The evidence of evolution that supports the idea that starfish and sea cucumbers are
closely related is Biochemistry because when these two organisms are compared, they
are both well-known for their ability to regenerate as long as the component in that
process is there. They don’t have a backbone but consist of an endoskeleton under their
skin that is made of calcium carbonate plates. Asexual and sexual reproduction are
both present in starfish and sea cucumbers, but their way of sexual reproduction is
particularly interesting since the organisms release both eggs and sperm into the ocean,
and fertilization occurs when they meet. Through comparing the biochemistry of the
two organisms and proposing as well as justifying the support evidence in evaluating
starfish and sea cucumber, we can establish that they are closely related to each other.
