Differential Housing Cover

Base Part Number: 4A028

Removal

NOTE: Removal steps may contain installation instructions.

1. Drain the differential fluid.

Refer to: Differential Draining and Filling (205-02 Rear Drive Axle/Differential - Vehicles With: Dana M220,
General Procedures).

2. Detach the retainer and separate the rear brake hoses from the differential housing cover stud bolts.

1. Remove the differential housing cover stud bolts.
Torque:
Stage 1: 177 lb.in (20 Nm)
Stage 2: 20°
2. Remove the differential housing cover bolts.
Torque:
Stage 1: 177 lb.in (20 Nm)
Stage 2: 20°
3. Remove the differential housing cover.

4. NOTICE: Take extra care not to damage the gasket.

NOTE: Make sure to note the position of the gasket prior to removal.

NOTE: Make sure the component is seated at correct position.

NOTE: The gasket is reusable up to 20 times unless and until damage.

Remove the gasket.

5. NOTE: Remove all of the gasket and make sure the surfaces are free of oil before applying the gasket.

NOTE: Use solvent and Scotch-Brite® pads to remove.

Clean the gasket mating surface of the axle and the differential housing cover.

Installation

1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

2. Fill the differential with fluid.
