1. What part of the movie struck you the most?
The part that struck me the most was when Ms. G voluntarily took up side hustles
in order to support her campaign in helping and providing her students with the
appropriate learning materials, the school trips, and having Miep Gies speak about
her experiences to the students.
2. What feelings were evoked while watching the movie? Why?
I went on a whole emotional rollercoaster ride while watching Freedom Writers. I
was in awe seeing Ms. G’s determination to face and overcome problems that were
presented to her and her students. There was such joy and pride in witnessing the
students change their perspective about education and life in general. I would be
honest and say that I was angry at some of Ms. G’s colleagues and husband for
their prejudice and lack of trust and support for Ms. G and her students.
3. What insights did you gain from the movie in relation to the role/s of a teacher?
I already knew that becoming a teacher does not only entail the responsibility of
providing knowledge to my students, but that it also includes the responsibility and
honor of being a person that they can comfortably trust and talk to with their issues
and problems should they have any. Watching the movie cemented that idea into me
and has motivated me to become a teacher just like Ms. G – a teacher, a friend, and
a sister all at once.
4. What challenges await you as you enter the teaching profession?
I am sure there will be quite a lot of challenges that wait for me as I enter the
teaching profession, one would probably be my difficulty to part with students as
they move on in their lives. I can foresee this problem since I have encountered it
from when I interned in our high school as part of our Work Immersion.
5. How do you see yourself as a future teacher?
I see myself as a dedicated and passionate teacher in the future. One who takes
her time in helping her students individually.
