EPISODE 297
INTRODUCTION (1)
Due to the recent spike in coronavirus cases, the California governor was left
with no choice but to shut down many businesses in California for the second
time. The shut down of businesses include dine-in restaurants, bars, shopping
malls, hair salons, gyms and any type of indoor businesses.

Most businesses reopened in early June but since then the number of
coronavirus cases have skyrocketed. In early June, there was an average of
abut 2,500 cases a day and now we are seeing close to 10,000 cases a day.

However, this second shut down doesn t feel as bad as the first one. Grocery
stores aren t overly crowded, restaurants with outdoor seatings are open and
strangely enough, I ve become accustomed to this lifestyle. 3 months ago, I
was expecting everything to be back to normal within weeks but now I
understand that this is something that s going to take a while. Maybe that s
the difference.

INTRODUCTION (2)
It s just unfortunate that many of the small businesses that were finally getting
back up on their feet have to go through this all over again. Apparently, the
surge is mainly due to people refusing to wear masks in public and lack of
social distancing. As crazy as it sounds, there are many people out there that
believe that this whole coronavirus thing is a hoax. I just don t get it. I don t
think it s that complicated. Just wear your mask and keep your distance. That s
it. But as they say, sometimes the simplest things in life can be the hardest
things to do.

Alright let s get into today s topic. Are there any habits you started or broken
during your time in quarantine? In today s conversation, Kame and revel share
some new habits they picked up during the quarantine as well as bad habits
they got rid of. As a matter of fact, both Kame and revel were able to kick the
same habit during the quarantine. Let s listen and find out what that habit is.

smoking during the quarantine.
revel began smoking at the age of 18 and had tried to quit several times in the
past. However, because Spain s quarantine required residents to stay at home
for a period of 90 days, that gave hime the opportunity to kick the habit.
revel believes this time he will be successful with quitting and if so, he will buy
himself a new cellphone with the money he would have spent on tobacco. While
in quarantine, revel also started his own podcast as a new habit.
Kame similarly learned to quit smoking during quarantine. She began smoking
when she moved to New York and once the quarantine was under way, she
began smoking more frequently. However, she decided what she was doing
was unhealthy and successfully quit smoking cold turkey.

CONCLUSION
Awesome job today! I wouldn t necessarily call it a new habit, maybe a new
hobby might be a better term, but since the quarantine started, I ve really been
into plants. I had a few indoor plants before the quarantine but now I have a
total of 8 plants. I have 4 indoor plants and 4 outdoor plants.

I didn t realize how difficult it was to take care of plants. Each plant is different
and you have to constantly check the soil to make sure it s not too dry or too
moist. Outdoor plants are a little trickier because you have the weather to deal
with. I live on the 6th floor and it gets a bit windy up here so I ve had a few
plants that dried out. My favorite plant at the moment is an indoor plant called
the Ponytail Palm . It s also known as the elephant s foot because the trunk
is wide and it resembles an elephant s foot. It looks like a miniature tree and
it s really easy to take care of. Hopefully I can move into a house with a big
backyard one day and start a real garden.
