T11A Ms. Christine A. Macuto

Title of the speech: Spreading false information about someone in the internet.

Introduction of Speech

I. Attention Device Opener - Have you tried spreading misinformation about

someone because you don’t like this person? Is it necessary to create such a
mess just because you don’t like the presence of one individual?

II. Central Idea - In this generation, Gen Z is normalizing discussions about other
people's lives. Moreover, they create fake news about this individual without fact-
checking if it is true or not. They enjoy these discussions and even call it 'tea'
whenever they hear or see people trending on social media because of an issue.

III. Specific Purpose - This speech aims to inform society that every individual's life
is not everyone’s cup of tea.

Body of Speech

I. First Main point - Spreading false information about someone is a form of

bullying.
A. People attack an individual without hearing their side first.
1. This event usually happens on social media. When a famous artist
gets exposed on social media, people quickly judge this artist
without knowing what happened.
2. Netizens will start messaging people involved in the issue to throw
hate.
B. People tend to add fuel to the fire.
1. The past issues will bring up to make the recent issue blow up.

2. Dummy accounts make up stories that are irrelevant to the issue.

C. People will start shaming the victim.

1. Individuals, especially women, tend to forget women's
empowerment and proceed to post inappropriate words on the
body and face of the victim.
2. Dummy accounts make up stories that are irrelevant to the issue.

II. Second Main point - If you encounter people giving inappropriate

opinions related to the issue, stand up and stop them from saying an
unfinished statement.
A. Ask them kindly.
1. If you are scrolling through social media and see unkind posts
related to the victim, contact the person who posted and ask if what
is their purpose for publicizing.
2. Ask if the artist that gets exposed already released a statement for
them to talk badly about the victim.

B. Give them advice.

1. Ask them, "if you were in their shoes, what would you do?".
2. Tell them to think fair.

C. Make them realize what they do is wrong.

1. Question them if they realize that what they are doing is also
wrong.
2. Ask a question about how did the issue relevant to their life or how
did the issue affect them. If they cannot answer the question: tell
them to stop spreading an unresolved issue, and by that, they will
realize what they did is wrong.

Conclusion of Speech

I. Review of Main Points - Once in our life, we commit mistakes. It just happens
that artists and influencers have a big platform wherein they feel as if there is no
room for misinterpretation. Social media is a dangerous environment as people in
social media can judge others faster than solve their problems. Spreading false
information about someone not only to artists but in general can cause a
traumatic experience that may lead to losing confidence, questioning your worth,
and a mental illness. As the problem can be resolved, but the damage has been
done. Use social media wisely. Make sure to fact-check the information you
heard because once you spread it out on the internet, and it turns out that the
information you shared is defective, it can use against you in legal action.

II. Closing statement - As this speech ends, let this be a reminder that there are
more valuable things to focus on instead of spreading false information about
someone. We only live once to care for others. There is more future ahead of us,
and let us focus on that.
