Digital Natives: Bangladeshi students and Use of Digital technology.

The present world is full of new innovations and technologies. In today’s world people are

becoming more and more dependent and accustomed on the uses of digital technology. In

Bangladesh we can see almost every people around us has smart phones, using internet, sending

massages and email, watching television and using other technology to complete their various

task.

“An entire generation, especially those born between the mid- 90’s and the early 2000’s have

grown up in the digital era” (Potter B. 2022). Today's students are considered as the children of

technology. Almost every Students can operate mobile phone, computer, i-pad, television,  i-pot,

micro-oven and other digital technologies. We are familiar with the scene that children watch

cartoons on TV. But now we can see that 4/5 year old children are also watching cartoons on

YouTube using smart phones. Students of the present age are very active on social sites like

Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Snapchat and many more. By using social sites students interact

with new people, sending massages to each other sharing/posting their thoughts and pictures do

video calls to their friends and relatives. Students also use YouTube to learn crafts and watch

movies and dramas. Online gaming is nowadays very popular among students. While playing

games they can get to know people from other countries and play games together at home using

the internet. Students have learned the techniques of using social sites or operating computer or

playing online games naturally, they do not have to read any books or need the help of adults to

learn these

 Students are also attending school classes using mobile phones and computer. Since March,

2020 all the educational institutions in Bangladesh have been closed for the benefits of students
and online classes are introduced.  Students are using Zoom and Google Meet to attend their

class. Students are doing classes and posting their homework on online. The students do not find

difficulties to operate these apps. The only problem for both teachers and students is poor

internet connection. Students are using Google translation instead of using the dictionary.

According to them, searching for the meaning of any word in the dictionary will waste a lot of

time but it takes very little time to find the meaning of any word in Google translation and also

get the correct pronunciation of the word.

Students use Google Maps. According to them, people have to suffer a lot to ask for the address

so close to the road. But they can easily reach their destination by using Google Map. Students

also rent bikes or cars using various ride share apps like Ubar, Pathao, and O Bhai. They also

order food, dresses others item on online. They do these things very easily.

The students in this digital world called digital natives. The Bangladeshi students are also not

different from students of other countries. They can find the uses of modern technology around

themselves. They were born and raised up using these technology and they learn to use them

naturally without taking any help from adults.
