Does having good friendships bring benefits to people?

"Friendship has a profound effect on physical well-being. Having good personal
relationships helps improve health and combats depression" (Eugene Kennedy).
Friendship refers to a close bond that forms between two people or a group. This
type of relationship is usually based on trust, affection, loyalty, sympathy, and
respect for each other. To think of a life without friends is practically impossible,
we would be talking about surviving, full of loneliness and isolation. Having
friendships can have a major impact on your health and well-being, as they can
prevent social isolation and loneliness, reduce stress, and are emotional support.

First of all, having good friendships prevents social isolation and loneliness.
Social isolation and loneliness can affect mental and physical well-being,
"furthermore, they are related to various health problems such as hypertension,
substance abuse, heart disease, and even cancer" (Holt-Lunstad J, 2015).
Therefore, it is important to forge good friendships, as friends help prevent
isolation, but good friends help prevent loneliness. Good friends can offer
companionship if you need it, they can help you celebrate good times and
support you in bad times. Healthy friendships communicate openly and support
each other.

On the other hand, friendships help you reduce stress. Everyone faces a little
stress from time to time, which can quickly build up and overwhelm you. Stress is
a state of physical and emotional tension where you may notice mood symptoms
such as anxiety, depression, or irritability. However, "social connections help
alleviate stress levels, which can damage heart arteries, bowel function, insulin
regulation, and the immune system" (Harvard Medical School, 2010). Because
when you feel upset or worried about something, you turn to friends who will
listen to you vent and think of solutions. This helps you to calm down and relax
and thus reduce stress.

Finally, friendships give you emotional support. Emotional support is an

having friends can help you get through the situation and ease the transition. In
addition, research has also shown that "happiness among friends is contagious"
(Robert Provine, n.d.). Therefore, it is also important to know how to be a good
friend, to know how to be there when someone needs it, and to give emotional
support in difficult situations. Emotional support from friends helps ease the pain
of difficult situations.

To summarize, friendships can enrich your life in many ways. It can be said that
friendships are vitally important to a person's development, as good friends
challenge you to be better, such as practicing healthier habits, encouraging you to
keep going when times are tough, and celebrating your successes. Moreover, not
only does it influence how we relate to others, but good friendships also bring
benefits to our health and keep us happier. Therefore, it is vital to remember that
it is more important the quality of friendships rather than the quantity, as the
benefits of good friendships are very long-lasting, such as preventing illness and
reducing stress, it also helps us gain more confidence and a positive attitude,
helps us reduce pain when we go through a difficult situation and also helps us
live longer.
