Introductory Message
Welcome to Mathematics 10!

The Mathematics Learning Activity Sheet is a product of the


collaborative efforts of the Schools Division of Guimaras and DepEd
Regional Office VI - Western Visayas through the Curriculum and Learning
Management Division (CLMD). This is developed to guide the learning
facilitators (teachers, parents and responsible adults) in helping the learners
meet the standards set by the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum.

The Mathematics Learning Activity Sheet is self-directed


instructional materials aimed to guide the learners in accomplishing
activities at their own pace and time using the contextualized resources in
the community. This will also assist the learners in acquiring the lifelong
learning skills, knowledge and attitudes for productivity and employment.

For learning facilitator:

The Mathematics10 Learning Activity Sheet will help you facilitate the
teaching-learning activities specified in each Most Essential Learning Competency
(MELC) with minimal or no face-to-face encounter between you and learner. This
will be made available to the learners with the references/links to ease the
independent learning.

For the learner:

The Mathematics 10 Learning Activity Sheet is developed to help you


continue learning even if you are not in school. This learning material provides you
with meaningful and engaging activities for independent learning. Being an active
learner, carefully read and understand the instructions then perform the activities
and answer the assessments. This will be returned to your facilitator on the agreed
schedule.

I. Learning Competency
Graph and solve problems involving circles and other geometric figures on
the coordinate plane

II. Background Information for Learners


In this lesson, you will learn how to graph and solve problems involving
circles and other geometric figures on the Cartesian Coordinate Plane.
Furthermore, you will apply your learnings on the equation of the circle in
solving real-life problems involving circles and other geometric figures as well
as in making wise decisions.

In graphing circles consider the following:

1. If the given equation is in the form x 2 + y2 = r2 the center is the


origin (0, 0) and r is the radius.
2. If the given equation is in standard form (x – h)2 + (y – k)2 = r2, the
center is (h, k) and r is the radius.
3. If the given equation is in general form x 2 + y2 + Dx + Ey + F = 0,
transform it into the standard form (x – h)2 + (y – k)2 = r2. Then, its
center is at (h, k) and the radius is r.

To graph geometric figures, plot the points on the Cartesian


Coordinate Plane and connect the consecutive points using ruler/ straight
edge.

Activity 1

Instructions: Do the following activities as presented:

A. Study the text and examples presented on pages 256– 262 of Mathematics
10 Learner’s Module for deeper understanding on graphing circles and
solving real-life problems involving cirlces.

B. Do Activity 9: Find Me More! Graph and Solve problem numbers 5 and 6


only on pages 267-268. Use a separate sheet of paper if necessary.

Activity 2:

Instructions: Read and solve each problem. Use a separate sheet of paper if
necessary.

A. Due to the threat of landslide in a particular place, the Provincial Disaster


Risks Reduction Management Committee advised the residents within 10 km
radius critical area to leave the place as soon as possible. Based on the map
drawn on a coordinate plane, the coordinates corresponding the location of
the landslide prone area is (2, 6).
1. If each unit on the coordinate plane is equivalent 1 km., what is the
equation of the circle enclosing the landslide prone area?
2. Suppose you live at point (3, -3). Are you going to follow the order of
the PDRRMC? Justify your answer
3. In times of disaster, what are you going to do in order to be safe?
4. Can you list down 3 coordinate points that are within the critical
area and 3 coordinate points that are in the safe zone.

B. The City Government of Iloilo City will be giving free vaccination for
COVID-19. The recipients are people who are vulnerable of the disease like
the senior citizens, pregnant women and the like. These people must be
residents within the 15 km radius form the City Hall. The City Hall has
coordinates of (1, 10)
a. Write the equation of the circle.
b. Determine who among these persons can be qualified.
