PokerB- First Poker event at IIMB

PokerB- IIM Bangalore’s first of its kind event where wit, aptitude and luck would be tested of the best
minds of our nation on a Poker table.

Poker as a game is played both online and offline, and we will do the same. Our participants will be from
pan India, specifically from other IIMs. To cater to this audience, we will have online Poker. This will
have large participation that is estimated to reach 120. However, some players prefer to play
traditionally across the table and enjoy the dreaded poker faces and bluffs. This segment is estimated to
reach the participation of around 50 students. To cater to this audience, we will have PokerB event
offline at our very own IIM-B’S campus. The entry buy-in is of ₹ 1000 and there would be only one
category of buy-in.

Publicity- PokerB is first of its kind event at IIM Bangalore, hence the publicity should be extensive and
awareness should be created. Publicity will be common for both online and offline events.

1. Poster- Poster made would be pasted in the entire IIM Campus. It will be sent to nearby campuses to
attract the local students. The poster will be circulated on the IIMB sports council social media pages
2. Seminar by Deepak Bothra - Deepak Bothra, an alumnus of IIM Indore transitioned from working full
time in Corporate to playing poker at an international level. Deepak is a fan of the intelligent game that
is poker and coming from IIM, his energy would definitely rub on to fans of Poker here at Bengaluru.

3. Social media- Social-media will be the most extensive source of publicity for the event. Poste₹ would
be posted on feeds and stories. Small videos of Deepak Bothra and Nikita Luther would be posted as
reels. Snippets of the best poker players around the world would be posted from time to time.
Questions of rules and strategic play will be posted to build the interest of players and to attract more
players.

4. Small snippet of Nikita Luther- Nikita Luther is one of the best poker players in India currently. A
small video of her would really add substance to the entire event.

5. Poster and cutouts of big players- The offline event would have posters of big poker superstars and
cut-outs of them to create an ambience and legacy of poker in IIMB that would be further taken ahead
by the students of IIMB.

6. Sponsors- Sponsorships from a budding crypto company would be looked for, on a priority basis. Part
of the event expenses would be covered by sponsors and also the winners would be awarded crypto
coins worth ₹ 50k.

Online Event
1.Platform– The game would be conducted on Live Games Night (LGN) Poker, LGN Poker is an online
Texas Hold'em poker game designed to be played in Zoom. This will mitigate the compromise of playing
faceless poker online. It will allow players to see each other emotions, bluffs and communicate with
each other.

2.Rounds
a. Playoffs- A randomizer would be used to divide the total online participants into groups of 8.
Estimating 120-130 participants, 16 tables would be made. The last man standing on each of these 16
tables will qualify for the next round. All the other participants apart from the winner will be eliminated
from the tournament. This will give us 16 participants for the semi-final round with equal money in
hand.

b. Semi-finals- Four tables of 4 would be created. The winner on each table will reach finals. The money
would be evenly distributed and they will sit in the final with the same amount of money that was left at
the end of semi-finals. The blinds would be modified as per the money in hand of players to manage for
100 blinds.

c. Finals- The top 4 participants would reach the finals and similarly the blinds would be modified as per
the money each player holds to arrange for 100 blinds. The winner of this table would be the winner of
the PokerB online event.

3. Moderator- Every zoom call will have a moderator from IIM Bangalore who will be responsible for the
smooth and fair play during the entire course of the game. To ensure net connectivity is fine for all
participants, a google form would be distributed to all to send a screenshot of their Internet speeds, one
day prior to the tournament.

Spectators would be allowed to enter to watch the Zoom game with video and audio off. (Reactions on)

4. Blinds- Each player will enter the tournament with ₹.1000. The blind will be of ₹.10 and so each player
will have the opportunity to sit for 100 rounds, ideally.

PokerB Offline
1.Rounds

a.Playoffs- A randomizer would be used to divide the total online participants into groups of 8.
Estimating 50 participants, 8 tables would be required, and all the matches would start simultaneously.
The last man standing on each of these 8 tables will qualify for the next round I.e., the finals. All the
other participants apart from the winner will be eliminated from the tournament. This will give us 8
participants for the final round with equal money in hand.

b.Finals- A table of 8 would be created. All of the finalists will start at equal standings at the start of the
match. The last man standing would be the winner of the tournament.

2. Logistics and inventory-Offline

a. Location and infra – The old mess below new blocks is an adequate place to play poker. Chai₹ and
tables are present there from before and it will reduce our infra expenses. It would accommodate
spectators easily around the table and the open space would create a nice ambience for the
tournament.

b. Poker sets- To plan an offline event for 50 participants, we will require 8 poker sets to start the
playoffs and 2 sets should be kept as spare. In total, we will need 10 poker sets of 500 chips.

c. Rule book- The standard poker rules will be followed during the game and a rule book will be made
available at the event to solve future discrepancies and amateur players to solve their doubts.
d. Snacks and water- Water and snacks should be made available for all the players and volunteers of
the tournament.

3. Dealers - Every Poker table should have a dealer to distribute the cards and overlook the smoothness
of the match. Eight (8) dealers will be required to start the playoffs. In addition, 4 dealers should be at
spare to rotate the dealers and mitigate the risk of absenteeism. A small training session should be
conducted for all the interested volunteers who want to be dealers, for the smooth conduct of the
matches.

4. Blinds- Each player will enter the tournament with ₹.1000. The blind will be of ₹.10 and so each player
will have the opportunity to sit for 100 rounds, ideally.

5. Photography- A request would be sent to Dress Circle to capture the entire event, screenshots on
Zoom and photos of offline events.

Post events
1. Prize distribution- Post the two events, both online and offline, a prize distribution ceremony would
be arranged. Therein the prize money and certificate distribution will be done to all the winners,
volunteers and planning committee.

2. Note of appreciation- A note of thanks to all the helping hands, IIMB administration, the sponsors,
the cleaning staff would be sent and conveyed to express our gratitude to them.

3. Social Media- Post the event, photos and the winner tally would be posted on IIMB social media
pages to mark the end of the event.
