Canada Cultural Modes

As mere Chem/Med who want to seek opportunities and financial freedom in other places, Canada is
always on the top of the tier list of every Filipino.

The reason for this is because of Canada’s wide range of benefits, including access to free healthcare,
better compensation, as well as its high employment rate.

Yet before we put our green hats on and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with fellow Canadian workers on the
17th, it is imperative for us to understand that we should not just solely rely on our traditional way of
communication.

There are three things that you need to know about how Canadians communicate:

1. Canadians are patented for their politeness. They expect others to adhere to proper manners
and be civil at all sorts of situations. They are too polite to the point that they may refrain from
telling a foreign worker that they have made a certain mistake in the workplace. Saying the
word “sorry” is merely just a bridge for low intensity awkward situations.
2. It is normal for Canadians, specifically French Canadians in Quebec, to greet each other by “La
Bise (LA BEES),” which is the act of lightly kissing both cheeks once. It’s a bit similar to our “Beso
beso” but the difference is that this act is not limited to the same sex.
3. And last but not the least, Canadians are strict with their personal spaces. It is an unwritten rule
to keep distance and value their bubble as one communicates. Moreover, coming closer during
a conversation may cause them to back away.

And that’s it for their cultural modes.
