Living Sustainably: A Starter’s Guide

Every choice we make has an impact on others. Quite simply, living sustainably means using
fewer of our Earth’s natural resources, and replenishing what we use. It’s actually not that
difficult. Learn how you can get started on the eco-sustainable life you’ve always wanted!

Say ‘No’ to Plastic, and ‘Yes’ to reusable household

items!

It may seem like a hassle at the start, but bringing a reusable

bag and containers each time you head out of the home
helps to reduce tonnes of plastic waste generated each
year. And you sure can afford to lose that plastic straw!

Rushing to another sale? Think again!

Did you know that in 2016 alone, Singapore generated

150,000 tonnes of textile and leather waste? As consumers
of fashion, we like to keep up with the latest trends and not
miss out on the latest deals in town. Instead of heading
straight to the shops, or securing the latest online deal, why
not give second-hand clothing shops a chance?

Food (waste) for Thought: buy and consume only what you need.

Food waste in Singapore has risen 40 percent over the last decade. In
2018 alone, 763 million kilogrammes of food were thrown away. We
can start writing shopping lists and buying only what we need. You
could also learn to cook up a storm using leftover ingredients. Who
knows? You might be the next MasterChef!
