ABSTRACT
1.Economic Progress
2.Social Justice
3.Environmental Preservation.
Based on its corporate social responsibility, a company can ensure that its
economic growth is beneficial to everyone; its suppliers, employees, customers,
the local population. In short, all its stakeholders while minimizing its impact on
the planet.
Depending on the sector of activity the specific issues and challenges differ from
company to company. Let’s take a pharmaceutical company! It can responsibly
in many ways, for example offer to as many people as possible safe and quality
medicine, take into account the needs of patients by supporting them throughout
1.2
their Healthcare. And for all companies, being responsible also means taking
care of its employees and ensuring their safety of work. It also means being
compliant with the application of the various laws and regulations as well as
defining ethical business practices. It also means reducing the environmental
impacts of its production sites and choosing less polluting modes of transport,
thus the ambition for a responsible company is to contribute to economically
efficient society equitable and environmentally sustainable development while
ensuring its profitability and economic growth.
As such corporate social responsibly, CSR is now recognized as a real
performance driver particularly because it encourages innovation. Reduces cost
and brings employees together around a meaningful project. Within our daily
activities both individually or collectively we can all be a part of this evolution
and that's what's really inspiring. And at service CSR is a conviction, resulting in
concrete actions implemented with enthusiasm.
TIMELINE OF CSR
Section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013 and Rules made under it ("the Act")
prescribe that every company having a net worth of 500 crore or more, or
turnover of 1,000 crore or more, or a net profit of 5 crore or more during any
financial year shall ensure that it spends, in every financial year, at least 2% of
the average net profits computed as mandated by the Act, in pursuance of its
CSR Policy.
1.3
TYPES OF CORPORATE SOCIAL
RESPONSIBILITE
ETHICAL PHILANTHROPIC
RESPONSIBILITY RESPONSIBILITY
ECONOMIC ENVIRONMENTAL
RESPONSIBILITY RESPONSIBILITY
Although not a legal requirement, operating in an ethical way is extremely important for all
companies. Not only does it create a good image, but it is also a way to demonstrate humanity.
This is done by taking part in the sustainable development of the society, environment and
stakeholders.
Companies are realising that by implementing CSR it is only for the benefit of the communities
or societies they choose to support. CSR investment is a strategy for your business or
companies’ success as well. CSR gives companies an opportunity to create brand awareness,
it also gives them a chance to attract customers who share the same
sentiments as them. Statistics show that customers, especially the
younger ones, are aware of the importance and need for companies
to take up social responsibility and is an attractive tool for these people
to select companies that share their vision and ethos.
To add, it also helps in building trust with stakeholders such as
employees, shareholders and customers. This way companies
thrive together with their customers and communities.
A good public image is of paramount importance to any business. Customers assess the
image of a brand before associating themselves with it. This assessment can be as simple as
looking at charities the companies is involved with or company staff volunteering in
1.5
community activities. What better way to create a good image than to incorporate CSR?
02 Increased Recognition
The more a company commits to ethical practices the more press they get around the work
they are involved with. It is a good way for companies to get recognition and reach their
customers about something other than selling the product or service. Many companies that
invest in CSR have seen increased recognition and brand awareness.
03 Competitive Edge
Companies that adopt CSR are one step ahead of those that do not. The good image they
create for themselves plus recognition means attracting more customers.
04 Customer Engagement
CSR influences customers to follow the brand and engage with its operations. If companies
have social media pages, customers follow them and actively engage with the posts.
Being actively involved in society issues promotes a positive and professional work
environment. It also encourages professional and personal growth because employees get to
interact with each other outside their work responsibilities. They find themselves doing
something for their society and it gives them a greater sense of accomplishment.
06 Employee Engagement
Adopting CSR helps to improve employee engagement. It is proven that employees enjoy
working for companies that have a good public image. CSR also improves the likelihood of

The Big Picture of CSR in India
As stipulated in the Section 135 of the Companies Act, companies having a net worth of INR
500 crore (Cr.) or more, a turnover of INR 1000 Cr. or more, or a net profit of INR 5 Cr. or
more in a given financial year are required to spend 2 percent of their average n et profit (of

compliance.
If we look at the overall CSR ecosystem in India, the total CSR fund investment by
companies in India would cross INR 50,000 Cr. by 31st March 2019, since the applicability
of the mandatory CSR. A large chunk of this is towards education an d skills development
projects, followed by healthcare and sanitation initiatives, both of which are top priorities for
the central government as well
